How about a change of pace....

There are a lot of 'experts' here, I reckon I'm one of them, that all have had a lot to say over prices of old Fords and what they are and aren't worth, so how about an experiment!

Lets find some sweet examples of the popular Fords and come up with a group average of what they are worth, or more accurately what we think they are worth.

Here is car number 1.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-FAL...WDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It's a very nice original XB sedan. No doubt its a sweet car but whats it worth?? I think there is a big difference between what sellers think and what the market does so lets see if we can measure it.

PERSONALLY, i think this car is worth $8000. Why? Well because that's about as high as I think someone would go on a standard 6 cylinder falcon sedan. How many buyers of this type of car would there be that have more than a $10K budget? Most with that budget aren't looking for something like that, they are after a car with more appeal, like a coupe or K code, but more importantly people would be reluctant to bastardise such a nice car so shy away.

This is a prime example of a car that is too good for its own good. A pristine example of a base model car has less appeal than a lesser car with more 'mojo'.

What do the rest of the experts reckon?

I'm not taking a dig at this seller but take a good look at it. It was his pops car, he would no doubt have a huge emotional link to it. I think you would need to step away from it and judge it purely for what it is, nothing more.

You are a stirrer! I like it. I think 16k is well over priced as it is not a V8, simple as that. If it was a 351 then he would be closer to the mark. I guess when you look at what people pay for Faker Shakers, He probably would be about on the mark. Drop

Its a XB GS Fairmont with the right bits for making a GT replica including GT bonnet with locking pins just missing the V8, desirable colour for XB range. and just a few bumps and scratches, and its not full of rust like most XB's. I would think about $10

I'd say about 10k as it's easy & cheap to turn it into a nice 351 Fairmont GS without butchering it if you stash the original running gear away.

I love the fact that as soon as this topic comes up and an xb is first choosen straight away i read "its not an XY"

to the point, it is an unmolested XB GS, id say the car is worth about 8k, bit hard to judge it without seeing it, it is a 6, original

I agree. I have never liked XY,s at all, but it is what everyone compares to. I would personally would throw a 351 in it and leave it as is rather than a fake GT. Yes, I think you are correct that in these uncertain times, asking so much money is very unr

Ok, so it looks like $9-$11K is the current market value of a very good condition XBGS sedan 6 Cyl, going on the comments here.

Personally, I think it's still over-priced but that's just me. I think if it was listed at that sort of money it still would

Well at $16K that one is a bargain compared to $24,000 reserve not met for something with a better colour and a few hundred cc's more engine capacity:

I reckon it will sell with one bid maybe a couple taking it up to 6K.

I'm a bit biased towards it because I had a Capri in exactly those interior and exterior colours right down to the side stipe.

The photo's were taken on a cloudy day. When did

XA= again id have to say over priced, exspeccialy at the financial times were at, by the time you pay for a panel beater to muck around with it and respray it in original colour the money will add up, how ever if i was after one and was after a restorer i

Did Still well actually customise these or was it just a badge that they stuck on the back of every new ford that they sold? I used to see a lot of those "BSS" badges as well as a few "Customised by Stack" badges on the back of Fords when I worked in

I like all 3 of these cars for different reasons. The XA because it's a nice looking car at a realy good price.
Both XBs are collectable in their own way. Would I pay 16K for a 6 cyl one? No, and I can't really see it
selling the way the market is dr

There is a factory 302 XB GS on fordmusclecars.com.au for $4500 which is not as good nick, but is a V8 and far better priced I believe? I think the XA sedan is the go as XA's are rarer, and I think are a nicer model. Good price too.

The yellow XA has disappeared from Ebay......only to reappear on Australianmusclecarsales.com for ...wait for it...$11,000!

He's gone from a chance of selling to none at all and no doubt, either reads this forum or was directed to it.

It's a nice ca

$11,000 for a non GT XA sedan I know it's not a Ford but for a bit more I would rather this piece of classic Australian iron over any XA,XB,XC that is not a hardtop or GT:
