Hi folks.....please excuse my ignorance.

I recently acquired an off road vehicle that has a Holden red 202 motor fitted. I have been told it has a yella terra head. The head has the small diameter spark plugs..which I am told are not standard on normal 202 heads, hence suggests it might be a YT head. I require a replacement set of extractors (headers) as those fitted have large oxide induced vented areas at their lowest point....ie BIG holes. My question is: Does this yella terra head have 12 ports or 6? I assume 12. I know I can take them off ...but would prefer to find extractors to fit first if possible. Can I fit extractors from a blue or black motor, as long as they have 12 ports?,,,,Does the yella terra head have 12 ports? Any help appreciated....thanks in advance.

The motor is mid-mounted in a Chev Luv pickup. Vehicle built for mud running.
heres da beasty motor...oodles of power seems to come from this thing. Have ran new gaskets etc through the Holley....still setting her up....little flooding at idle. Still a bit to do, but coming along.

cheers
Newt

Hi Newt, Carlton,

Carlton, I think Newt is looking for help, not criticism. I expect someone who knows what they are talking about will help him.

Newt, Im no expert, but I think red heads were 9-port heads. Maybe someone fitted a 12-port head and pa

Thanks David...yes..my understanding is that the red heads (original) were 9 port...but Im not sure if this head is 9 or 12 being yella terra...is there another way of telling, rather than pulling the extractors off? I have access locally to a set of 12 p

Its a 9 port unless its one of those old Bath12000 or whatever they were called Yella terra Conversion. In any case you need red extractors. To tell for sure what is the casting number off the head? What is the engine number prefix?

If you need new ones, surely you can afford a few days without the vehicle? Pull them off, have a look, then get what you need!

The casting number will not ID it as a YT head....the only way to know is to pull the manifold off and look at the inlet ports..or pull the rocker cover and look for double valve springs...or pull the head off and see whats written on the valve head.

But it will tell for sure if its a red or blue, and it doesnt matter if its a red 9 or 12 port as the extractors will still be the same.

No. If it is a Yella Terra red head 12 port conversion they will be the same as a 9 port. Factory Holden 12 port (blue/black) heads use different extractors.
However that casting number tells you its a red head, so just buy red head extractors. The head

Lets clarify this a bit.

Red heads are originally 9-port. Blue/Black heads are 12-port.

Extractors are not interchangeable between these two, because the bolt patterns are different.

Where the confusion comes in, is a red 9-port head can be modif

Definiety HQ 202 head. Looks like head may have had some work though by the springs and retainers.

Yella terra is a product. Company was Perfectune, established by Dave Bennet. He cut his teeth building heads for Holden 6s and then later for HDT (XU-1 and L34). If you Google him youll find his HR with modified head and his HK GTS327 he used to drag rac

Blue heads are also reconized by there shear intake manifold Port size. Reds are tiny in comparison.
If you hold a red and blue head together, its clear why a set of blue/black extractors/ headers wont fit a red head and vise versa.
There is really tht
