For what its worth, some powerline/fire modes;
Pole top fire, generally dirty (coastal or polluted) insulators and mist or fog for hours after a long period without rain. Leakage current over the insulators can cause hot spots on wooden crossarms or pole

hey thanks byron,
i would ask though, in your opinion,
if a twig, [ what constitutes a twig,compared to a branch]
matter of debate, anything up to about a meter i would call a twig,
anyways, have seen many times, whole nodes of twigs, full of leaves
more than basketcase than a bear!

found this article about lightning, and the fires, interesting, never heard of lightning without clouds??

Experts like Monash University's David Packham have said that lightning hasn't played a big part as a source of ignition in the recent

Hello BCB, its not Byron, (we have similar ID's). In my opinion your branch would not cause a fire unless it forced two conductors together. The conductors should not be much warmer than ambient with any sort of wind around.

so many sad storys,a guy at work lost his mate that lived in flowerdale,
and another work mate has family and friends that live in traralgon,his parents saved there house but heaps of his mates lost everything.........:(

shifty350 you are entirely correct.
When i lived in the bush. you always would see a house with a enough of a clearing around it. so there was no way the house would catch on fire.
