Just wondering if anyone can help me with this problem, when the engine is idling it runs fine even when I rev the engine at the carby its very smooth but as soon as I put it in reverse and drive off or put it in drive and go forward it has a terrible miss in the engine. Now Ive replaced the filter, distrubitor cap and rotor I've even swaped over a different coil and it still has the miss.
I first noticed it 20 klms out of Mackay in the pouring rain,I sprayed the CRC and by luck it came good a bit down the road then when I arrived home after 1000klms it started getting worst even to the stage when it wouldnt even fire. I've blown out the carby and replaced the parts as before but the problem exists. The engine is a blue 253 with all the pollution gear, can anyone suggest a sollution to get her running again. Thanks Mary

The blue v8 had electronic ignition from factory , check to see if it has spark when its not firing ,no spark could mean the module has packed up on an elec dizzy.
check the vaccum lines for cond , leaks can cause rough running as can carby gaskets.

If it only happens under load then it sounds like a fuel pressure problem maybe? Im chasing something quite similar in my mates classic BMW. Im working on it tomorrow, let you know if i find anything that could be relevant.

Yes fuel pressure thats my next thing on my list, I have a brand new fuel pump kit for it. Ive replaced the fuel filter as soon as the problem started and just came back from checking for sparks no sparks. Well like you said its a matter of elimination.

Update - The HQ only ran for 20klms and then she started the putt, putt, putt again so it surely has to be a fuel problem.
Im wondering if it might be possible to have water in the fuel as the problem first started about 50klms after refilling the car in h

Have you tried a bottle of metho in the tank, it binds to the water and will help clear the tank of it. Cheers
