Trimatic 6 to V8 bellhousing, what could go wrongg

Hello all, can anybody advise me why I cannot bolt on a Trimatic V* bell housing to a 6 cyl. Trimatic. My sons 253 ute has a burned out transmission and I want to put in GWO trans from a six. look forward to your advice. Dave

Pump. Number of clutches. Speedo drive gear. Selector location.
Easier and cheaper to find a good 253 or 308 box.

have tried this a few times, not much success. Was told once by an auto transmission guy that bellhousing and box they are a "machined pair" and i guess they will warp slightly together over 20 years as well.. The two main obstacles when fitting a 6-cyl Tri-Matic auto to a V8 engine, would the bell-housing & the input shaft (different spline & length).
As adam PERTH says, both faces must be flat & not warped otherwise you will have other dramas. As Byron men |
