Hi all I posted this question a while ago and I am still a little unsure of the best way to fill the windows on my XX7 Sandman, it has 2 side windows, one half size on each side..
I have 5 options
1/. Weld a plate in, to plug the hole..
2/. Glue a plate in, and fill the hole...
3/. Unpick the entire side panel and replace the whole side...
4/. Replace the entire roof and both sides....
5/. Dont touch it....:(

I have 2 complete windowless vans at my disposal and have just removed the sides from another so the complete panels are not a problem...

I was thinking of trying to weld the windows with the mig, (keeping heat to a minimum) and then if it warps too much i will try the sides or complete roof and sides...

Any help greatly appriciated...

where are you located ?

I know a guy in Pakenham Vic. who could do the full side swap.

I saw the results after he replaced the side panels of an EH van... cool !

i welded windows in for a made. its a really slow job. but you need to make sure both windows line up. some vans the windows dont line up. the shell in that spot has warped alittle. i ended up cutting out the body between the 2 windows and used a 2mm flat

Jvanner is right , If I was goin to do it thats how I would do it,glue it on first then tack weld around at different spots(avoiding too much heat in one spot).ETC.Then use a product called ..Metalfill its hard to work with but REALLY GOOD . It sets like

I am also getting this done to my van and have had heard all the options you mentioned. Everyone seems to have a different and "best" way of going about it.

I am going for the weld in 2 separate plates on each side. (one for each window). Spot weldin

There was a really good post on here about this a year or two ago. I think it was by rogoth?? It had heaps of pictures and was quite informative. I think he used panel glue? ive tried to search for it but cant find it. Perhaps its been archived?

Think the problem with side panels on a van are similar to welding panels into bonnets. A guy was doing up a HT van and wanted to put the monaro scoops into his standard bonnet. The old timer doing the job said to his mind the best way was to put a step i

hzsandman,
The HZ van that you have pictured came out of the factory with full length headlining. Any van with factory full length headlining had the extra strips of sheet metal spot welded to the rails on each side, so the lacing and bows had something
