BEING THE TOOL THAT I AM i realised today i have put my stub axles on the wrong sides ie: my calipers would be at the back not the front. Now when ive tried to fix my stupid mistake i cant get the stub axle off the upper ball joint, ive tried jacking it and smacking it with a rubber mallet (leaving my head with a massive lump) but nothing has worked. would i be better to take the whole upper swing arm to pedders n get em to undo my dick head mistake or is there a trick i dont know about. any help would be awesome

you generally need to hit it with a real hammer...rubber is no good... going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

No you put the nut back on the balljoint a couple of threads to protect the thread and you belt the stub axle area where it surrounds the ball joint taper. Two or three good hits should do it.

Also, dont jack up the lower control arm, the ball joint releases more easily if under tension. MAKE SURE that the ball joint nut is loosened but still on as Jim5.0 mentioned to protect the thread & also you.

hit each side of the stub axle at the same time, near the ball joint to shock it off, you need 2 hammers.......
keep the ball joint undr preasure from the spring to push it off......

just belt it on the sides on the stub, not the ball joint. also you can use a pinch bar to lever it down to help a bit. the other day i refitted a manual steering box to a HQ. all i did was tighten up the castellated nut, put the split pin through and le
