I should of said, and I popped the bonnet.
I was in a rush at the time I typed it and had to go directly.
I should of said one day driving along I and the wife heard the engine start knocking a metallic sound, I though fookeing hell like, the engine is going to blow, then I thought is that a valve spring, but it when away.
Then about a week went by and on my way home from work, I came up to a roundabout and hear we go again, so I puled up and she just knock away the whole time I was under the bonnet, the harmonic balancer looked a bit wobbly, but I shut the bonnet and drove home no problem.
The noise has not come back yet and the harmonic balancer looks as if she is not wobbling as much as it was that day, now.
I have never had a balance go before and I thought when they go they just come apart due to the rubber being flogged out, and that's it no warning, they just fall off and that is what a mechanic mate says, he has never heard of one playing up like mine.
Now mechanic says some harmonic balancers can't just fly off like the old Holden's could, as they have some sort of pin or other. so I can just drive it regardless and I will get it home without worrying that the water pump is doing it's job and the belts will not fly off.
Has anyone had a gen 3 harmonic balancer problem ? I have never heard of one that has buggered up.
The cheapest one I can get is $206 plus oil seal about $40 then about a hour and half labour they recon.
$400 if I do it I could stuff up the oil pump, maybe
Bloody new type cars can be a pain to work on with things like that, one can stuff up big time if you don't know.
