Everything in my engine bay appears to have a light clear coating sprayed over it. The radiator shroud, wiper motor and cover, air cleaner, rocker covers, inner guards, firewall, its just a light coating but its everywhere. Would that be a dealership touch to make everything look shiny?

I noticed that at the Gasolene show. I wondered if it had been done for the show - you know, seal in the original dirt.

I dont think the previous owner was trying to shiny anything up, he threw a hand full of leaves and dirt in there for affect at the show.

...It's definitely a car dealer "thing"...back in the day it was the bane of a lot of people when they had owned the car for some time and the clearcoat started to yellow, prompting cynical types to say "so she's been through a car yard eh?" Edited by user Monday, 19 October 2015 6:40:07 AM(UTC)

Attn camry drivers. The accelerator is the skinny pedal on the right. |

GMH stared doing this somewhere between LH Torana release and HJ Holden & Statesman release. You find it on later HQ's. It is a clear coat over everything. Dealers started to do the same thing, which is what your HK will be. It may even have been done by the original dealer as given the timeframe between build and sale of this car it may have been sold as a used car or as a demo. |

46 years later I'm trying to removed it from all the plastic components and wire connectors. Paint stripper does the job. Its all over my HQ engine bay as well. Edited by user Monday, 19 October 2015 8:40:53 PM(UTC)
