Got a ratlling noise in my 186, comes and goes but more prevelant once engine in warmed up. Mechanic says it is coming from the 2500 Stall converter. Different mechanic says when he advanced the timing the noise volume increased,when he decreasd the timing the noise reduced....Anyone got any ideas where to start

Since one mechanic got it to increase/decrease with timing adjustments, could it be too much advance? Just wondering if the outer ring on the harmonic balancer has moved, so the timing mark is wrongly positioned, giving too much advance?
On the converter front, is it possible to remove the flex plate to converter bolts, push the converter back and then you could run the engine with the converter disconected. I've never tried it, and don't know if its even possible.

New Torque converter installed and Transmisssion Connecting rod to Converter repalced, i can still hear a slight rattling nosise whether the car is in park or in drive in a stop position. Could this be Yella Terra Roller Rockers hitting Rocker cover?
Been running 98ulp as head is built for ulp....

If the rockers are hitting the cover (and I don't know if thats possible) I reckon you should be able to find which one it is by feeling along the rocker cover. In my younger days I fitted roller rockers on a holden six, and yes they did hit the top off the rocker cover. I cut and shut two covers to make a standard one sit around a half inch higher.
I would assume you can get aftermarket rocker covers to suit these days.
Not sure if this is the problem you are experiencing though. |

When id drive and hand brake on, Loud noise sounds like Rockers, and possibly Aluminium timimg cogs Converter sits on the rod in transmission, which driveline is inside of.

If you pop the rocker cover off you'll soon see where the rockers are touching on the inside of the cover. Aluminium timing gears only make a slightly louder whine.
