I've dismantled my old diff from my ute after it suffered a high degree of diff chatter, I was told by a diff rebuilder the chatter can be caused by been shimmed (there seems to be very little for improvement in these diffs). I intend to sell as I have no use for it (apart from a door stop) Before I sell it, I would like to know if the centre was rebuilt (with the shims removed) whether it would be a silent LSD or noisy. While there is some scoring on the faces of the cones, it this acceptable? [img] [/img] Edited by user Friday, 15 January 2016 8:37:23 PM(UTC)

When you turned full lock the diff chatter came about ? That could be due to the wrong oil was put in or an additive or just worn out.
It's buggered toss it.

Turning 90 corners and full lock made some horrible grinding noises, here's an old thread where I was having a lot of problems: http://www.fastlane.com....f-oil--Why-so-Grey.aspx
I tried several oils from Mineral to Synthetic, including Holdens Additive ($60 a bottle!). Sure it stopped the diff chatter but the additive reduces the effectiveness of the LSD -noticeable in the wet it was simply an open wheeler. No point having an LSD! I've since gone a Tru-Track with 3.9 and it's so good I would never bother with a crappy Holden LSD. Edited by user Monday, 18 January 2016 8:31:07 AM(UTC)

Yes the old LSD is rubbish if you drive them hard, they don't work well at all at times with the more k's on them, but sometimes they work well sometimes and then they just become like an open, totally useless.
