Can or does anyone know the history of even unleaded fuel in Australia.
We had 91-92 unleaded in 1986 but what year did we get the 95 octane and then the 98 octane.
I remember filling up with 95 in 1992.
I remember there was a half leaded unleaded fuel sold in 1986 and think the octane was lower than Super at the time.
What year was it that we could not get leaded petrol.

Can't answer all your questions but the phase out of leaded fuel started in 2000.
Illegal to sell leaded Australia wide from 1st Jan 2002. |

Agreed. Super leaded for cars stopped at the end of 2001 with regular leaded having been pretty much phased out by about 1985. I seem to remember super actually disappearing months before then. Lead replacement petrol was available as super was phased out and was 96 Octane (Ron) with an AVSR additive. Iirc NSW had an earlier mandatory phase in for ULP vehicles other than passenger vehicles than other states. PULP started around 95 RON and was pretty much available from day 1, but not everywhere. When LRP was phased out in 2004 PULP seemed more readily available, at least down here. Edited by user Wednesday, 2 March 2016 12:26:58 AM(UTC)
