Is it a Dandenong car? If so can you get the code on the INSERT line on the body plate? The code will be 17xx for a 186S 4speed. If it isn't a Dandenong car and it has the original owner's manual the code may be in there.
The model code will tell you if it is a Special or Premier. |

It won't have come out of the factory with both Premier & Special badges, although the dealer may have fitted them.
There are many differences between Premiers & Specials with both equipment & trim, so ID shouldn't be an issue. Even easier would be to post the numbers off the body ID plate. From those we can decipher the exact model, trim & paint details for you.

It's probably HR225M - 7107. The letter after the 225 will either be A or M, representing Auto or Manual.

No, the 7107 number is just body number of that model out of the Melbourne (Dandenong) plant.
The TRIM number & PAINT & TOP (if any) number will tell us the paint colour(s) & trim colours.

HR225MR = HR Special Sedan, manual, RH Drive 510 = GM-H code for Glacier White (all over) exterior paint E57 = Dawson & Alaskan Aqua (Sadlon) interior trim 568-9562 = Dulux formula code for Glacier White paint
782 is the model extension code. This signifies the factory optional equipment fitted to Melbourne built HDs & HRs. In other words things like 186S, Opel 4-sp, LSD, disc brakes, power steering. What combination is yours & are you sure the number is 782 ?

782 is not a valid code for HR that I know of. The known codes are at the moment:
0xx (161's) 1xx (186's) 2xx (X2) 4xx (not sure, think maybe fleet or taxi) 12xx (186S) 17xx (186S 4spd)
If this is a 186S 4spd with LSD and disc brakes I'd expect maybe 1746 or 1748. But there is still lots to learn yet. If the original owner and vehicle details are in the glovebox in the front of the owner's manual it should have the same code replicated there. |

Interesting car, reminds me of one a mate had. A Special Sedan, 186S,4 speed, disc brakes. I can't remember the interior, but it had the Premier wheelarch & rocker mouldings. Can't recall if it wore Premier badges. Since this was 30 years ago, things are hazy, but I remember it as all white. A small production batch perhaps? |

Thanks for the photo. It is 1782. This is a new code to us. Can you possibly confirm its mechanical options:
186S M20 4spd. Front discs. LSD? (any stickers under the bootlid or anywhere else)? Diff ratio (should be on the collar behind the diff yoke, will be 3.36 or 3.55). Power Steer? |

Rocker mouldings are the wide stainless trim strips fitted to the sill panel, running along from the front wheel arch to the rear. These & the wheel arch mouldings were fitted as factory standard to Premiers.
They were also made available as a Nasco kit, which could be fitted by the selling dealer. It sounds like the dealer added many items to this car, e.g. the Premier badges.
It was commonplace in the 60s for owners to over-adorn their cars. Sometimes they just look a bit too 'busy'.
BTW, were the Special badges still on the car, that would look odd.
