Settle down Byron. I reckon it was Pagewood where they did everything differently. And Brisbane is just far north Sydney.

Pagewood always did it the same and for a long time prior to the other plants (in the form we are interested in anyway) coming on the scene. It is Dandenong that seems to buck the trend with when and where they did things and also changed along the way too.

Looking at these photos and your mention of measuring up from the bottom of the door is something I thought about also. After looking at another car a while ago to figure out the correct position for these stripes I thought that it may have been simpler to set up the measurements from the base of the sill panel for the section of stripe between the wheel arches and then space the rear wheel arch to rear bumper section of stripe down from the crease on the quarter panel to match the distance of the stripe below the door crease. Sounds confusing when written down and luckily since then I have been given a detailed copy of the set out of these stripes from the body crease.
Following on this topic I am also interested to confirm the finish of the black paint along the vertical seam of the sill panel / underside of the body, the front gaurd lower rear mounting bolts section, the r.h. rear quarter panel area and spare wheel dip. Anyone have any detail photos of these areas? Any information appreciated.

Have attached some photos of some of the black painted area of a 327 HK Monaro I looked at and I mentioned on a post dated 14/7/15. Is the area in the attached photos painted black (between the wheel arches) common on these cars?
I have also noted that some of these cars have the lowest section at the base of the r.h. hand rear quarter painted black and some don't (the spare wheel dip, section) Is this a personal choice? or were all original cars with side stripes painted black in this area?

Probably 9-months too late with a reply (sorry Gerard) but no my car has no sign of black paint under the sill panel.
Yes the lower outer spare wheel well is painted black and looks to be done by hand on my car, a bit like the hand painted section on the front of the front guard.

Late 68 Dandenong
Would this be 566-06459 or a 568-06459 ??
Looks the same as my firewall and inner areas of the subframe. (edit)

Its very thin and transparent in some areas, definately only one quick coat.

Wayne, I just remembered I owe you an email.
HK up until very late in the series, and maybe even early HT used 566-6459 line Dulon. It's full gloss Warrigal Black.
Either late in HK or early in HT this changed to 568-6459 Warrigal Black, also full gloss. Dulux called the new paint series (568) "Dulon Type E". It was a new formulation but the colours, tinters and specs remained the same. The stripes and blackouts were done outside the normal paint booth in the assembly plant and were not baked, as the car was mostly assembled by then. For this reason you often find them dulling, fading, crazing and cracking even though the main colour is still fine. It also explains the hand painted bits.

No worries Geoff I'm just doing some automotive paint archeology so that clears the stripes up for me.
Warrigal Black Gloss 566-6459 (or Gloss 568-6459)
I was confused because I've seen several HK GTS's with satin stripes and one with almost matte stripes, suprised some people can get it dead wrong after all that work.

Thanks again
