I have a few HRs that I need help understanding the body codes:
Body - HR235-17929-S What does the 17929-S mean? This I think means the options fitted right? Can tell it's a Premier sedan with disc front...but what else? Was it originally an X2 with Opel 4speed?
Body - HR2106MR-12836M Paint - 585-0076 Insert - 040 What does the MR and 12836M mean? This is a Grey in colour / white roof ute, boosted drums front, LSD, towbar and heater/demister. Though I can't find any reference to the paint code 0076, anyone know of this colour code on any other HR ute? Is it rare or of any historical value?
Looking forward to hearing from those that may be able to help. Thanks

On the ute MR means manual right hand drive. 040 is 161 manual and most likely front drums. Are the power front drums original, and is the LSD original? The reason I ask is 040 is a very common code and I don't think 161 manual with power front drums and LSD is a very common combination. 12836 is the 12836th HR body built at the Dandenong (Melbourne VIC) body plant. 0076 will be the main body colour, the TRIM line will tell you the paint combination (roof and body). I don't know what 0076 is though but someone here will have the info.
The Sydney car, the 17929-S means the 17929th body built at the Pagewood (Sydney NSW) body plant. Without the original Vehicle ID certificate showing the build configuration number (like the 040 on the tag on the Dandenong ute) you may never know what it was. If it was an X2 and you have the original owner's books with the VID cert in it the number will be 2xx for an X2. 186 will be 1xx. I doubt it's be X2 with a 4spd, these would be near non-existant. 186S 4spd yes, but I don't know enough about HR build numbers to know if 17929 is late enough to be 186S or not. 186S are 12xx or 17xx (4 digit codes). |

HR235 = HR Premier sedan & 17929-S simply means that this was the 17,929th HR out of the Pagewood (Sydney) plant. It won't tell you anything about the options or equipment on the car. By the time the Opel 4-Sp box was released the X2 was finished in production, because it was superseded by the 186 S in May 1967. Having said that, there is anecdotal evidence of several X2 4-Speeds being built in that small time gap. HR2016MR = HR Utility, Manual trans, Right Hand Drive. 12836M = 12,836th HR built in Dandenong (Melbourne). 585-0076 = Sabre Grey, which is a Fleet colour. This may have been a Government fleet vehicle. Does anyone on the forum know who had a fleet painted Sabre Grey ? BTW the white roof would've been added later, Utes were not available ex-factory in a 2-door colour scheme. The 040 on the INSERT line is code for the optional equipment, to my knowledge this was only stamped on the body plate on Melbourne vehicles. 040 = plane jane 161 3-sp manual (drum brakes, no LSD or power steer etc.) Dr Terry Edited by user Tuesday, 26 April 2016 8:33:36 PM(UTC)

Dr Terry is right, only Dandenong body plates have the build combination code, but they do appear in VID certificates of cars with body tags from other body plants, as a model extension. Not always though. |

Dr Terry
Dr T, Sabre Grey is a RAAF colour and the combination is 901, there is also a 2 tone combination, 1004 with a Snowcrest White roof. JamHR could you put up a pic of the ute body tag? |
