Nick,
We would welcome a loan of the badges, and if we proceed would send two new ones back. The part number 7439311 is possibly moulded into the back of them. You can give me a call 03 9305400 Greg Barker to arrange for them to come down.

UPDATE.

Rares contacted me. At that stage I thought they were the ones but when I dug them out I discovered the two NOS one I had were Premier. I always thought both were the same bar the different paint colour.

But alas, different part numbers in the back of the castings.

Turns out the differences, though minimal renders them both not interchangeable. The locating pins are in different positions.

Amazing that they would go to the expense of having two sets of tools made for an item which appears, at a glance, to be the same. ....that's manufacturing.

Rares told me they could not guarantee the safety of the part as sampling was potentially destructive.

I am a bit puzzled by that as I know there is some pretty sophisticated 3 dimensional scanning equipment available. Tooling masters could then be made using a 3D printer. Rares, this is not a critique, just a suggestion as I for one reckon you guys go to great lengths to get things right. It has taken a few go's at the HK centre badge but it is looking pretty good now. You really have to put a real one next to yours and look hard ....it now takes more than a glance.

One thought from me is that if you could use 3d scanning wouldn't it then be possible to re-draw the rear of the badge to suit the Kingswood/GTS grille location holes?

Cheers.
Nick.

Nick, Firstly for the HK centre badge it appears there were at least three different manufacturers at the time. Phil BARTOLO has a collection of second-hand badges and found the part numbers moulded in different places. They all varied slightly in the artwork that was not noticed at first. Secondly you have to look at the potential sales and pricing of the Monaro badge and the cost of tooling just to get a Master. Next is finding a manufacturer that can use that master to produce a badge using a process to achieve the end look. That older style process is outdated and there are few wanting to produce and wear the amount that are rejected due to fine blemishes that can appear. As you know there is the difficulty finding good samples of the actual badge, as you thought you had the correct ones initially.
Should any suitable samples become available then there is always the possibility of the project succeeding.

I have a NOS HK GTS grille badge and a centre plastic badge. Both are old black and yellow boxes. What I noticed on the plastic badge is the detail on the original is very high,
