hi

I've dug out from my nos collection the following kit which I'll fit soon to the 4.2 HJ tonner camper.




Question is, what coil best suits the upgrade? Can I stick with the original coil, or do I need a GT40 or GT40R coil (or equivalent)? I fitted one of these kits several years ago to a HZ GTS I had and it performed faultlessly (and I can't remember what I did with the coil!).

There are a few things to watch when installing these kits. I've fitted many over the years & they are of quite good quality.

Firstly make sure that you use a resistor type coil. i.e. the factory original or a GT40R.

Secondly whilst the original yellow wire is kept for the coil supply, you need to route the red wire from the new module to the IGN terminal of the ignition switch. In other words, the red wire must 'see' 12 volts both cranking & running.

Also make sure you mount the module so not too much water is allowed near the wiring connector.

Wouldn't a blue motor distributor, coil and 1.5mm gaped plugs be a better way to go?
can rotor buttons for that kit still be brought?
GM bleed us dry and run away.

Petty sure its a common swap, but this kit was lying on the shelf so thought I may as well make a little space and use it! The camper won't be doing more than 5000km a year, so it should outlast me ...

Its just the rotor button thats a prick to come by or expensive as were wrecking a commodore and had the distributor for what the rotor was going to cost we changed the distributor. Ill leave out my idiot mate took the rotor out so no one could steal the car and lost it.
