looking for assistance on running problems with the landy.
it's 2.5 v6
Was running fine,then cruising at 80 it suddenly started jerking and shaking as if it had a flat tyre.
No flat tyre.
After that it has great trouble when under load. it will cruise at 80 or more on downhill run but when it gets
on the flat or a rise
it starts to choke and slow right down. has a roughish idle
Appears as if it could be a fuel problem (filter?), maybe spark plug dying, coil dying, thought it might be
overheating but it is not losing water and gauge is not indicating that.
It will cruise around 60 all day but needs fixing as it dies on steep hills and has no power!
One mechanic suggested a cat problem but did not have time to look at it and "has no test gear for landrovers".
Am cruising Tasmania on hols and having trouble getting into mechanics.
Any help?

This is all guess work, but could be spark plugs and leads (probably the place to start to replace all of them), fuel filter as you say, exhaust blockage (maybe cat or muffler collapsed inside?)

Pardon my ignorance, but what model of LandRover has 2.5 lt. V6 petrol motor ?

I would suspect low fuel pressure, based on your description of the fault. The only way to verify that would be to attach a fuel pressure gauge & monitor the pressure while the fault is occurring.
Once you've proved the fuel system, check the ignition system. See how the plugs are burning (dark, rich, lean or whatever) & check the coils for any evidence of crossfire & also check the spark strength, with one of those little spark gap testers.
My gut says fuel pressure though.
