I needed to get another seat frame organised and to the trimmers. Apparently the 2 decomposing rats are the cause of the two rust holes. Yuckkkk

Even though it was mid 30s in the garage we managed to get the engine and box back in and all the underside back together. Tailshaft, hoses, the complete exhaust inc extractors and all the wiring and cables DONE.

Created a bit of clearance between the motor and the firewall whilst it was out.

Finally back together and looking like a car again. I am waiting on a heap of parts to come back from the painters. They will be bolted on as soon as they arrive. The trimmer should be installing the headlining this Saturday which means the front and rear screens go in soon after. Then it's just a matter of fitting the rest of the interior and we're done.

Sorted out the handbrake cable mounts. There's no way a stock rear cable will work and pass engineering. The mufflers and exhaust are in the way. The passenger side cable will come across the diff and join up with the drivers side one just in front of the rear spring front hanger. The stock intermediate cable will work as it is with just a new rear mount. Also made up a template for the cabin wall carpet. Hopefully the trimmer is here tomorrow to fit the headlining.

Finally got around to starting the motor. No oil pressure at all. A new pickup tube was fitted so I guess I need to prime the pump with some Vasolene. Should have thought of this when it was on the engine stand still, not back in the car.

Half way there. There's not much room under there. I wish it was a HQ I was working on. Much easier

All back together and we have 40psi pressure at idle

Bonnet hinges refitted. Fuel line moved to the other side of the chassis rail to allow clearance for the handbrake cables. Handbrake cables measured so they can be made this week. Trimatic electric kickdown wire run through the floor and up to the accelerator pedal. Finally rear stabiliser bar link mounts fitted.

The last piece of the under car puzzle. The stock rear handbrake cable could not make it's way around the exhaust without rubbing on it. There's no way the engineer would have allowed this so it has been reworked to clear/ It's now two seperate cables with one running across the diff and meeting the other as they both run along the chassis rail. A simple connector will join them to the stock EH intermediate cable.

Handbrake cables sorted. Just need to paint things, get a couple of grub screws to locate the intermediate cable end and then adjust it all. Spoke with the engineer today and all I need to finalise now before he does the final inspection is make some wheel locating rings. The front hubs and rear axle flanges are different diameters and neither matches the wheels. Easy job on the lathe. HOPEFULLY final inspection will be the weekend after next...

Bumpers clear coated and assembled. Front one took a bit of work to align but we got there. Rears go on tomorrow. Underlay finished and wiper arms cleaned and fitted.

Made up the missing rear bar side mounting bracket and fitted the rear bars. Rear stabiliser bar mounts also finalised. Just a handbrake cable bracket to make and the undercar is finished.

This is why you always count the fasteners BEFORE you start putting things back together. I didn't remember dropping one of the studs and didn't hear it drop. I ordered a set of wheel centric rings Wednesday. These arrived today and fit nicely. Also made up a couple of simple brackets to hold the spare wheel door closed. They are concealed so help keep things neat.

It's alive. Brakes seem to be getting better with a bit of use. A few laps up and down the "closed to the public" road and they feel better all the time. Still not as good as I was hoping but that may still be to come once the pads and rotors are bedded in.

Dash pads on. They thinned out the ends to ensure they didn't get too wide and stop the glovebox opening. Looks like it wasn't enough as it's tight.

The brakes never really seemed to get to a point where I was happy with them. I think I have it sorted now though. Proof will be in the driving though. I plumbed a twin piston vacuum pump into the booster and I now have a pedal with some feel and that reassuring vacuum sound when you apply the brakes. Fingers crossed.. I still need to neaten it all up now I know it has solved the problem. I guess the cam in my little 308 is bit crankier than I thought
