G'day, I'm new to this forum caper and while looking through previous posts I noticed a need for old quadrajet carbies. I've gone through the back cupboards of the shed and found a couple of old carbies. one I bought back in the late 80's. the numbers are 7042282 with 2631 in the next line. it also has a green canvas tag with red washer. I think I can make out the numbers cl432r with what looks like a stroke and 85. there's also a cutout like the old tram tickets of an x below. hopefully this might be of use to someone doing a resto. I'm confident it's an outside usa carby from 1972 suiting an auto which might suit a hq. someone out there might need it as it doesn't fit my old hk's.

I've never heard of that number before. 7042202 and 7041282 yes, both of these can be found on a Holden or Statesman.

7042202 (usually followed by DJ) is off a 4BBL 1972 SBC engine from a US vehicle (I think only L48 at that time), and the 2631 date code is feasible but not on a HQ. This same carby was used on HQ from about 8/73 with 1973 date codes.

7041282 (usually followed by ZF) is off a HQ 308 auto engine, used from the start of HQ through to about 8/73 when it was replaced by 7043284. 2631 would be valid for one of these.

got the old monocle out and 7042232 . probably old usa stock sent over here. pity it's as good as new.

7042232 is off a 1972 Cadillac 472 or 500.

Thanks for the info. I dug out another one that's had the auto choke disconnected and would need a kit through it otherwise it's in good nick.
the first digit appears to be a T but I presume it is an upside down 1 so the number is 17056280 with date code 0996.
does the date code go day day month year?
is it off a 1976 holden or statesman?

17056280 is the 308 carb for all HX Holden and Statesman and all LX 5.0L. It was used up until HZ engine production began. There will also be a handful of HJ's from Pagewood built a few months out from HX volume production with these carbs.

Our carby number on our 6/71 HqLs 350 is 7029284 ZD 0429

Some of the early HQ 350 engines got HT-HG carbs, which is what yours has. Same as the earlier HK GTS327 carbs over-ran into the Canadian engine cars, and also HK carbs into HT manual 350's. Pretty normal.

Did they use the same jets (71) in the hktg or larger ones?

AFAIK they are all basically the same carbs from HK GTS327 through to 8/73 when the clean air engines started and then they started using a US spec carby. The only difference being the different vacuum sources for manual and auto carbs.
