Do you mean between the tank sides and the inner "chassis rail" and shock absorber? If so, the answer is not much. Around 20mm at the closest point for a factory system. There are no heat shields on the tank, only a transverse heat shield under the boot floor above the transverse rear muffler. The heatshield was fitted to 186S cars and all V8 cars, with the exception of early HK, which were the subject of a recall.

Hello I'm a girl and new to this so I'll do my best
The fuel tank as in the car The dumpers come out the end and then the stainless exhaust runs close to the fuel tank From factory Monaro What was the gap or air gap between the two parts
My issue is a pit inspection at which time they are saying the gap needs to be 100mm
When a 2011 standard VE Ss V8 has a plastic fuel tank and a gap of 42mm between its muffler exhaust pipes and the tank.
If I could figure out how on earth to attach a photo then it would be easier to understand Sorry and thank you

Have a look at a previous topic "327 and 350 original exhaust systems" I added some photos there earlier this year and the third last one is probably the one you are referring to Regards Gerard
