This is on gumtree. Its listed as a HX van. I tried to get better pictures of the tag but no response.

I can't upload the picture, grr.
The tag reads,
HZ 8wM70
Trim PRIME
Paint NASCO

Is that a spare parts body?

So if it went on a HX it retained its HZ tag? Where would you now stand if it was a HX Sandman?

It is a rebodied HX. Lots of cars were repaired this way.

What is the stamped chassis number, near the steering box ?

Also does it have a compliance plate & what chassis number is embossed on that ?

The photos just show the Nasco tag plus a 2003 QLD mod plate that has a HX chassis number on it. Mod plate is LK1 for seats.
The body number on the Nasco tag is the spare part shell part number followed by what looks like 15-A, so it is the 15th HZ van spare part shell put together, possibly the 15th HZ Holden van, not sure if Kingswood van shells would be identified differently.

It will carry a compliance plate as the LK1 is for the fitment of bucket seats as the seating capacity on the compliance plate will say 3. Normal practice in the day was to transfer all the identifiers from the wreck onto the new shell. This is not the case today.

Photos don't show if the original compliance and VIN plates are present, just the one photo of the Nasco body tag with the mod plate next to it. I've seen both methods where Nasco tag is removed and wreck's tags added, also seen it where only the Nasco tag is there. Even seen a combination done.

How come the spare parts body got a tag but a spare parts chassis was supplied blank?

And why (I know, too many questions) did they put GMPA on A9X race shells and not NASCO like that van shell?

The body had to have a tag identifying it as a spare part. Only vehicles got a chassis number, not a spare part chassis. GMH supplied HJ chassis as a spare part for HQ, so it could not get a chassis number anyway.

Just like the way body tags were numbered differently between body plants, so too the spare part bodies. That is an Elizabeth HZ body, the A9X's were Dandenong. Pagewood did it differently again (they did the replacement HJ-HX coupe and Statesman bodies). The A9X's weren't spare part shells either, they were essentially whole cars. They had a chassis number as well, but were not complianced.

The brand name NASCO was discontinued around 1975 & the name was changed GMP&A (General Motors Parts & Accessories) there is no difference.

My guess is that some plants still had ID plates that had already been stamped NASCO & just wanted to use up the old stock plates.

Elizabeth kept using Nasco. I have seen it on a late WB tag with BUILT rather than TOP on it. The text would not get stamped until the body shell needed a tag. The HZ tag in question says HOLDEN'S LIMITED at the top, rather than HOLDEN'S PTY. LTD. This change happened between 12/76 and 1/77 and if tags were stamped Nasco prior to 1976 then they would be the older style tag. It is just a body plant difference. You'll only find GMP&A on Torana shells in that era or possibly a Commodore shell if Dandenong did those, although I suspect if Elizabeth was building that vehicle at the time they'd so the replacement body. The Pagewood tags just say NASCO COUPE on the model line and a simple number on the body no. line.
