Does anyone know what the factory mufflers fitted to HX LE Coupes were and if there is a current version available with same size, appearance and sound?

Same as all other HX with N10 exhaust.
I just bought a full replica system for my 5.0L HJ Premier sedan, it should be the same other than one engine pipe. I think the only thing different to the original N10 system are:

No exhaust crossover (important on HJ but not on HX although HX had it).
Mufflers are 2” rather than original 1 7-8”, original pipes and tailpipes stepped down to 1 7/8” at the mufflers.

Mine wasn’t expensive, got it from Settlement Road exhausts. They made the engine pipes and supplied the clamps and rear straps. The mufflers and tailpipes are Redback.

Why I typed all that is I don’t think you can get the original type mufflers except in 2” but you need the matching in and out pipes to suit.

I may be barking up the wrong tree but... no one in their right mind would want a standard exhaust system on a V8 Holden would they? The good note they made with a decent twin system is what sold cars! I just could never strangle a fat note with a standard exhaust and that would be on any Holden V8. In fact you should lose points at any judging at any car show for strangling a V8.

The standard twin system was fine for a stock HX 308. All people did in the day was to swap out the 1 7/8” mufflers for 2” ones, or on Torana swapped the peashooter tailpipes for 2” as well as the mufflers.

I'm probably up the next tree? I was in the V8 Hk wagon, single exhaust, filling up at the servo recently and as soon as I started it up I got comments about how it was nice to hear the sound of the original V8. It reminded them of the era.

Thanks HK and WB. my objective with this car is originality, not perfomance. Its a personal thing

Are the Lukey mufflers any different/better than the redback mufflers?

Chev don't sound as good as a Holden V8 anyway.

No not yet fitted. I just grabbed it when I was in Melbourne early this year as the engine pipes are too long to freight.

My Prem is a single exhaust car, so still concerned about fitting the extra hanger bracket, as the repro ones have to be welded on. The originals you can bolt on if you can get a RH one off an original car.

I do believe that back in the day of the HT 'Quite' was the big trend in new cars and you got that stupid spray can hissing noise when you got up it.
The quiet trend started with the HK and I believe the HT-G was more so and the HQ were not as quiet inside but the exhaust still was, it was not until the WB and VB that the stupid restricted exhaust was got rid of for something not so bad.

I put a 2in all the way with a Berkley muffler on my stock HQ 202 and it sounded stock but with no hissing sound.
I seen people put replacement exhaust on 202 HQ-J-X-Z that was smaller than the original rubbish just to save money, some dipstick mobs were out their selling crap to people who knew no better, no wonder they were gutless.
I traded in my manual HQ 202 and the dude who bought it came up to me and claimed it to be a freak motor because it went so well, I said no it's just a good example and that a mate with the same but for a 350 Holley could hose off mine and another dudes went just the same as mine but many gutless 202's were around but the 202 autos sure were gutless as.
