Hi Victor.

From those numbers, your HR is a Special sedan painted Grecian White (all over) & has Dante & Mephisto Red interior in Salon vinyl.

The car was built in Pagewood (Sydney) in late 1966. I can't tell from those numbers whether it was manual or auto.

Hi Dr TErry, thank you for the info much appreciated. Unfortunately the colour has been changed but I want to take it back to original. Do you think its value would differ whether its manual or auto?

This one is an early 1966 Adelaide built Special sedan.

The paint scheme is (or was) Alaskan Aqua with Grecian White roof. The interior is Dawson & Alaskan Aqua also in Sadlon vinyl.

Can't tell if it an auto or manual, but I don't believe it makes a big difference to value anyway. The main thing is the car's overall condition & what the buyer is willing to pay. If the prospective buyer prefers an auto, he might be willing to pay more. If he prefers a manual, then vice versa.

Do EH's have a bigger tunnel for auto like EK? If so the auto car might pull more so the driveline is easier to upgrade.

That used to be the case, but these days a pristine original is worth real money, so modifying them is less of a priority. A low mileage one-owner car would lose value if you did any gearbox conversion.

Also. unlike EK-EH, the HD/HR bodies all have the same tunnel regardless of the transmission fitted.

Agree for Survivor cars, but that is only a small amount of them. The bulk you see for sale would at least get a Trimatic upgrade or better still a driveline from a VN-VS which would make the auto bodied car more sought after. I know if I were buying especially an EJ i’d want an auto body so I could fit a decent engine and box without major surgery, eg 283 and TH350.
I knew HD-HR were essentially the same as HK but had a feeling EH were still gearbox specific tunnels.

Yes, but these days that % is much higher & I see more old cars being put back to stock, than going the other way.

Maybe a Tri-Matic in place of a Powerglide or Hydra-Matic, but not much more.

You see more floors having their floor shifter holes welded up, than being cut open.

I also see more HD-HG being "restored" as modified than as original, and unless they are a GTS327/350 the modified car doesn't seem to suffer value wise.

Still worth restoring, but upgrading is good as long as it involves minimal irreversible mods. I can’t see any sense for example putting a 307, powerglide and banjo I to my HK GTS when I can have a 350, TH350 and 9” with no mods to the body. And a 427, Muncie and 12 bolt into my GTS327 with no body mods. To me it is a better car and far easier and cheaper than trying to make something original that isn’t. I wouldn’t do it to a Survivor like my HJ Premier but a car with nothing original mechanically I fail to see the point.

each to their own, but i'd rather see a non matching no's 307 powerglide banjo in a HK GTS than one with a 350 turbo 9 inch. once you do the drive line then its paint, then interior upgrade etc. easy to lose original feel.

I get that too. This yellow GTS is essentially restored to as close to original as possible, with another $15k it could be a concours car but that isn’t my thing.. I like them to look like a brand new car, original ride height, but have a performance and brake upgrade. This one will wear GM Rally rims too.
I would love an original EJ-HD, restored as faithfully as possible but not a Survivor. I’d remove the driveline and fit a SBC, TH350 and replacement rear axle plus decent brakes. This is why an auto EJ/EH is more valuable to me as I don’t have to ruin the floor on a manual car. Then someone can easily change it later if they are that was inclined.

The final appearance that a car has should suit you. If you want to restore a base model back to how it left the factory, and you like that then that is what you should do. If you want some modifications then do that.

What gets me is that we are more worried about how much the car will be worth and what the next owner would like that we have forgotten the reason for owning the car ourselves.

I restored a HK back to stock in 1984, which was very different at the time, so my car was different. I did not do it because it would be worth more, I liked it the way it was. Helped lots of guys modify cars over the years also, had a great time doing it. Make it how you want, expect it to depreciate (like all cars do) and enjoy it whilst you own it, and when you sell it expect the next owner to add their personal touches to it.

Warren once again your correct. After my previous comments I must remember that my pride and joy is the Modified Hk Brougham I built back in my early 20's.
