Hi all. My ht was running Hz girlock callipers and HQ discs/rims. I have since fitted P76 rotors and rebuilt the callipers.
I also purchased new stock 14 inch steel rims(going to run GTS caps) but when I went to fit them I found they hit the calliper body.
Looks like the calliper needs to go closer to the centre line.
What have I missed. I thought this was a simple process. I haven't heard anyone having issues with 14 inch HT rim clearance when running HZ callipers......

Not sure on the specifics but aren’t P76 4.5” PCD? Are you running Ford or Chrysler rims? |

The stubs are switched so callipers are to the front. I tried swapping the steel part of the calliper arm but it fouls on the stub so best I can tell these can only go one way. I haven't tried swapping the alloy part side to side but in doing so would put the bleed nipple on the low side so cant do that anyway. Checked the rim and its rubbing on the alloy part of the calliper on the outer rim section(not the centre)
If calliper could move closer to the bearing by 3-4 mm it should be fine but I vant see where I can make it do this. Tried another T/G 14 inch rim and it was the same.....

Maybe try a HQ calliper for clearance. |

Yeah I can try and find one to see what it does.
Everything I have read says that HZ is a straight swap over.
I used blank P76 drilled to HT which is a hopper stopper kit and again should be straight forward.
Cant see what I've done wrong to get stuck like this

There is a difference in stubs but don’t know exactly what it is. HK to mid HX are the same and then there is a change for mid HX to WB m. I think the change corresponds to the addition of half alloy calipers. Might be worth grabbing a later stub and comparing? I don’t think this is the issue though but I can’t think of what else. Unless it is just how it is. Will HK sports caps fit on HQ-HZ rims? |

Thanks for the suggestions There actually htg rims. I purchased the P76 rotors blank and had them drill to ht by hopperstopper. They also supplied the bearing spacers and stub to calliper spacer that brings everything in the 18mm compared to using HQ discs.this affects the track of the disc/calliper by reducing 18mm a side but My problem is the calliper too far out. 15 inch rim would be fine but I wa t to stick with 14 inch.

I got that, I just wondered if you could use HK GTS caps on HQ rims. But I guess if the HQ rotors push the wheel outwards then your front track would be illegal and wider than the rear.
I ended up buying 15” rims but I have AUII to BF Falcon rotors and calipers and 14” wouldn’t fit. I would have bought a set of the HK alloy 15” replica rims but they only made them in 7” for some strange reason. |

Thought I had a win. I grabbed the old HQ discs and noticed that the distance from the wheel mating face to the disc face was about 5mm larger than my P76 disc. Great I thought that would push the rim further from the calliper. It helped but didn't fix it. I'd need about 20mm wheel stud spacer plate to fix it and that defeats the point of the P76 disc and only masks the problem....
Waiting on a call from hopper stoppers to see if they have come across this before....

Rang hopper stoppers who had the same question asked the day before. As most fit the P76 discs but go HQ pattern it's a problem not often seen. But apparently my HTG rims wont fit over my HZ callipers...... FFS. I'm told there may be a 14 ,inch steel rim out there that does but I'm yet to find it.
So now my options are A) find this mythical steel rim B) remove my P76/HZ parts and return to stock C) go 15 inch rims...

There are two smaller calipers, the HQ ones and the half alloy PBR. You could try them dummy fitted and see how you go. I may have some of the alloy PBR here I could take a photo of next to some HZ ones. I don’t think I have any HQ PBR though, I did have some L34 ones but sold them. I may have another L34 one here but I think I turfed it when I last moved. Are you trying to fit 14x5 or 14x6 HT rims? The 6” rims have more backspace than 5” if I remember right. So far I've tried 14X8 with 5.0 BS 14X7 with 4.5 BS 14X6 WITH unknown backspace(will check when home)
The area that runs. If you look at the girlock writing on the calliper just outboard it tapers down. It's about 5-10 mm down this taper that its scraping.
Yes very interested in your measurements around this area. Thanks

These are the two types of caliper I used many moons ago when I put redrilled Hq discs on my Hk. I was running 6" chromies at the time, The bottom ones are Hq and needed grinding the front top surface area away to get enough clearance. I replaced them with the top pbr ones and problem solved. I think they were off a Hx but someone here will verify that. I think I used the original HK stub axles as well..Hope this Helps.

Yes, bottom HQ. Top are HX. You find them on some UC as well but the cast bit says TORANA and the hose comes in the top. You have to use the HOLDEN one with HQ discs/stubs. I think these will solve your problem, but you might go through a few looking for good body and pistons. I had a few with stripped threads on the bleed point too. HK to mid HX stubs are the same thing, they just swap sides for HQ. Edited by user Wednesday, 17 July 2019 4:12:38 PM(UTC)

Wish I knew how to post photos..... I put 19mm spacers on my threads and the wheel fits(an illegal I know) but it shows it's possible but only just.
All the rims I have. If you look at where the centre attaches the outer ring. Theres about 5mm before it tapers out wider. It's this taper that it hits the corner of the calliper.
I'm getting the backspace adjusted on the rear. I might get the backspace on the front reduced by 19mm effectively doing the same as the spacers. Might just get me by at minimal cost.

took me ages to work out the photo thing and I'm still shit at it. Only way I seem to be able to finally get a pic up takes about half hour. first I download off my camera to computer. then I print that photo and rescan it back to images, same computer. once I've done that I open my albums and transfer photo. if all goes well, which normally it doesn't, then I open insert album image and that part is easy. reason I need to print and rescan back is my camera photos are to large and I've tried cropping them but still to large. I'm a typical pre computer taught school kid still learning.

That is where mine come close too, right where the hoop steps in to meet the centre. The 15x6 Pontiac Rally rims come really close to the BF calipers there with 3 7/8” backspace. The rims I bought are 15x6 Chevelle SS rims but are 4” backspace so I’m hoping they still clear when they get here I can maybe use 1/8” spacers though as they were used standard on HK GTS.........will see if that floats if I have to. Here are my rims just out of interest, will try them first without dress rims https://www.wheelvintiques.com/wheels/muscle/50-series-chevy-ss-396.html |

For those interested. Got new centers/bands for the front pushing band as far out as I could. Still not enough...... Changed HZ to HX brakes as recommended and with a little calliper "blending" and some wheel welds cleaned up it fits........ Of interest the P76 discs also made the wheel hit my tie rods with the old wheels. Due smaller distance between outer disc surface and wheel mating face.10mm less than old discs. But that was also fixed with the backspace change. Absolute pita and should have just stayed Hq pattern but I got there.
