Hi guys, great site with a heap of info! Have secured a 1974 350 GTS sold here in NZ when it was new. Problem is that the info plate with trim and spec details is missing from a paint job years ago and I only have the info on the long skinny plate. Is there any way from the VIN that I can tell what trim and specs it should have had from new? The NZ ones don’t have the third plate for Aussie compliance. VIN is 8Q69UDH......Q. Engine is QU..... K05 14 H. Both those numbers match the original NZ registration system. Any help on finding what the model, body no, trim, paint and others would be great if anybody knows how to find this. Thanks in advance!

None of the BODY plate info was ever printed out of GMH's IBM mainframe onto reports that exist today. The BODY number will be the same as the numerical part of the PSN.

Does it have a chassis number on the driver's side rail? It should have a Pagewood tracking number on the firewall under the LH side windscreen washer pipe.

I don't think it was sold new in NZ though. Will elaborate later. I might be wrong though.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Chassis rail is EHQ15289S. Firewall number is 15484S, real hard to read that though the paint layers!

Any info from those would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

HHS already had the car recorded from the past when it had the body tag. It was Mustard with black trim with cloth inserts which I think is 30Y trim.

The plate should read L30 M41.

The dealer code of 237 on it was what threw me. I thought that was a Pagewood internal use code but as it turns out it is Pagewood export to Trentham. So you are correct, it was built for sale in NZ hence no compliance plate. There are a fair few 237 coded cars around this one.

Thanks for the help again. Much appreciated.

I also heard back from Ben at HHS who confirmed as much as he could and was a good help.

Has been great to gather some info to confirm it is what it says it is. Let the restoration begin!

Cheers!

When was it first regoed in NZ ? , It some time took a long time between production date and NZ rego date . I think it would be Black trim with Herringbone cloth . Surely there is somewhere on the GTS you can see what the original colour was ? Mustard and Chrome Yellow are quiet different . Thanks Mark.

Build date according to HHS was 19/4/1974, so it’s definitely a 74 model. Good call, I haven’t started the project yet but will have a sand back of a spot now. Cheers for the tip, would have discovered it a few weeks into the process!

The firewall should have body colour on it. Either straight colour or under black.

Remove a door trim. even if it's been repainted there should be original paint there without the need to sand.

237 2 NSW PAGEWOOD GMH - Export NZ (Also - Fiji-exported Pagewood-built cars originate with the dealer code 237)
