I cant work out why I have an extra PINK male connector. Power #5 PINK wire sends power to the tacho. Why does #5 have this short male connector terminal attached to it? (circled with a ? mark) Thanks for your help once again

It's a very good question, I think it was a bit of forward planning that never eventuated.
As you can see from the grey wire (instrument illumination) the one to the floor tacho plugs onto the (only available) fusebox terminal & the original one plugs into the short male (grey) extension.
The pink wire does the same, the pink tacho plugs onto the (only available) fusebox terminal, leaving this short male extension available for any other accessory that requires IGN 12V.
In the HT/HG series this fusebox terminal was used for the handbrake warning light feed, but in HK this is done internally in the printed circuit of the dash cluster. Also HTs don't get a floor tacho, which means this wire is effectively redundant for any factory designed purpose.

It provides a supply for the power window ignition cutoff relay coil, in the event that a tachometer and power windows are fitted. If ever.

I totally forgot about a tacho & power windows combination. This would only occur in the event that somebody optioned a floor console & tacho as well as power windows in a 4-door sedan (or wagon). This would be without factory A/C, because that would delete the tacho !! Dr Terry Edited by user Friday, 5 June 2020 9:56:39 AM(UTC)

And it would be after the Brougham and Coupe release so not a long timeframe in relative terms. My guess is if it did happen it would be someone fitting a used (or bought new as a spare part) tacho to a power window Premier sedan/wagon or Brougham with console shift. These should pretty much account for probably 95% of HK with power windows. I haven't see a HK Kingswood with power windows except for the remains of one Kingswood sedan where someone had wrecked one but kept all the panels, so it had the winder-less trims and motors in the doors. And you couldn't get A31 power windows on HK Belmont at all or commercials, but you could get an M11 tacho on all sedans and wagons plus Brougham and of course Monaro (and standard on GTS and GTS350 unless fitted with A/C). The catch though is it'd have to have been optioned with M20, M35, M20 or M21 to even get M11 for the tacho to mount on. Edited by user Friday, 5 June 2020 11:33:18 AM(UTC)

I've seen a few HK Kingswoods with power windows, but they're still quite rare.
But that option combination of power windows (in a 4-door), with a console shift transmission, plus a tacho but no A/C, would have to be ultra rare.

Agree, most likely scenario would be a dealer fit of the tacho or someone did it afterwards. Aircon was rare as it was so expensive. Added $460 to a $2000-$3000 car, that is 15-25%. 307 auto on a Premier was $462.
Cheaper to buy an air conditioned ute or van! Lots less tax. A/C was only $430.95 on a cheaper car. |
