Same as any other bucket seat HJ-HZ. From memory it is 4 per seat.

Thank you, yeah I have a feeling that the genuine sandman was a little different with 8 bolts each, wondering if anyone knows for sure?

I doubt it. Sandman was just a collection of options and a couple of things you couldn't option on a HX Holden ute or van. The seats are a simple option you could get on any HX ute or van, only difference was the Kingswood vinyl for Sandman whereas a HX Holden ute or van got a plain vinyl rather than the two tone vinyl of a Kingswood. The seats were identical to what you got if you ordered buckets on a HX Kingswood ute or van. They would be mounted the same. There was no performance or strength reason why a HX Sandman would need more seat bolts than a HX Holden ute or van. A HX 3.3 4spd driveline is hardly conducive to performance!

What is interesting though is all of HJ-HZ Parts catalogues show 2 bolts per side for the bench seat, but buckets say AS REQUIRED. WB has 4 per seat.

HQ says AR.

LX lists 8-4 as the quantity on the one line, which means 8 for buckets (total so 4 per seat) 4 for bench (2 per side).

Part number is SP2093 for all of them.

Every bucket seat I've known in a old Holden has 8 bolts. They didn't put the extra bolt holes in for looks. In Hktg they had provision for four bolts next to the floor shift mount. The inner bolts are easy to get but the outer are always a pain to get.

You could be right. However many they have Sandman will be the same as any other one. It does look like my HJ Premier has 4 across the back of the passenger seat but I can’t easily see the front, it’s seats (and carpet) have never been removed. I’m not sure why some I have pulled apart have had 4 or 6 per bucket, but the fact the parts catalogues say “as required” is odd.

Sandman or Kingswood they have the same floor pan, same seat rail. same adr Main reason for lack of bolts comes down to "To hard basket" when car was worked on.

I’m talking about untouched cars I’ve wrecked.

Why did you wreck an "untouched car" and how did you know it was "untouched"?

Used to wreck them in the 80’s and 90’s. You’d easily buy a 6-12 year old HJ-HZ Premier or Statesman that had only ever been serviced and nothing else. Just a bit tired in trim or had been a smoker’s car and no-one wanted them. Just like buying a VE or WM/WN today with 150,000km on it and untouched other than regular servicing but the interior a bit scuffed. We’d wreck them and put doors, front panels, engine, box, seats etc in a cab-chassis. Sometimes even use the whole firewall and front floor with dash and column, aircon etc to repair rust. In 1990 a HZ Deville or 5.0L Premier as described was a $1500 car. I’d buy them too with long rego too, drive them until rego ran out and wreck them. Such cars were my everyday drivers until I bought my new VS ute in December 2000. You can tell when the cars were original by how carpet, underlay etc were fitted and by the bolts themselves. One look at my HJ Premier today and you’d know instantly it is mostly untouched.

Just as a matter of interest, my HJ tonner has a bench seat with 4 bolt holes on either side, two at the front and two at the back, but only two holes in the floor on each side. The seat holes are matched so the seat can use either the 'front'or 'back' holes.
I always assumed this was so the seats could be placed a couple of inches further forward or back depending on drivers preference, or because of the different position needed because of cab clearances for utes/tonners vs sedans/wagons.
But it seems it is a carryover from earlier bench seats where 8 bolts were used. Is that right?

Maybe you are supposed to use 8 bolts for a bench seat because it has a Load or capacity of 3 people. But for a Bucket Seat, it only has a load of 1 Person so it only is supposed to use 4 bolts. 1 bolt in each corner ? I Wonder, or they could of had 2 bolts in each corner!
