I have a 1972 two barrel stromberg and intend using it on my HQ 253. I've never actually used the carb so don't know if it's got the correct parts in it.
I need to replace the accelerator pump, but the available replacement ones have a solid shaft, whereas the one in my carb has a 'spring-loaded' shaft.
The images in the workshop manual don't really show this detail.
Does anyone know what type of accelerator pump should be in a 1972 two-barrel Holden Stromberg (23-3064) ? Are they interchangeable ?

They would have to be all the same cc I would of thought, I would think that they all have the spring, you must just put the spring over the shaft of the new one I would think.
I see no reason why holden would mess with the the size of the cc pump. and I would think that the pump needs a spring regardless to work correctly.

Yes the pump piston only comes as so in a new kit and you have to fit the old spring etc over the new one and all and their is a spring under the piston remember not to forget that one.
You may have to look for a exploded view of the ww2

Yes there is a spring that goes under the accelerator pump no matter what. The manual calls this the 'Spring-Pump Bottom'.
The original accelerator pump is 2 piece, each piece separated by another spring. This spring is called the 'Spring-Pump Duration'.
This allows the effective length of the shaft to vary as the spring compresses.

The replacement accelerator pumps are 1 piece --- a solid brass shaft. You could clip the spring over it, but I don't think it'd do anything. The accelerator pump couldn't compress since the shaft is solid.

It'd be easier to explain if I could upload pictures. Perhaps I don't have these privileges as a newbie.
Anyway, here's what is offered as a replacement. You can see it's a solid shaft:

Sorry, I missed this, I've been so busy.

If you look closely at that pump plunger you can see that the shaft can actually slide up & down inside the black plastic bit.

Use the top & bottom springs off the old plunger & use the cap, which fits into that groove on the shaft. It become far more obvious if you have one in your hand.

Trust me, I've done 100s of these things.
