Tec talk further down page
Hi there, I have a mad conection with HQ"s, and Belmont's imparticular, So here goes.

My son knows I love Belmont's and told me there was one on Facebook about five years ago, (i'm old no facebook). He showed me the picture and "I wanted Her"!! (HQ Belmont), son rang the guy, he wanted $4,500, son tried at $3,800 and guy wouldn't budge so son asked for more photo's. (I way too keen to make the call), No photo's receivied over the next 3 days, son calls me and tells me car is no longer on Facebook but is on Ebay, starting price $4,500, (cheap for a V8) Found it listed on Ebay under pocket bike's in Cars Bikes And Boats, didn't come up under Car's search and like real casual I post my bid and wait. Then few day's later son calls and tells me that Belmont V8 Ute was on Muscle Car Sales sometime back. As auction about to end with no other bids, so I decide to cover myself with a few seconds to go, ("it will be mine at all costs" bid), I Win one factory built 308 M21 GV2 HQ Belmont Ute in Purr-Pull (Purple) with black trim for four/five.

Traveled just south of Bega with trailer for pick up, Ute had a reco'd 308 heart trans-plant, gentleman told me he got The Ute from Bathurst. On the way home went to All Holden weekend Sydney, parked out front with Ute on trailer on Saturday some looked, one guy tried to buy and he really tried, he from WA, he seemed to be the only bloke who knew what and how special that Ute was,(turns out he was the same guy that I sold 2x A9X wheels to this year,) small world.

A couple of years later did a trip to Dubbo to pick up another Ute, me and seller got talk'n and he turned out to be the guy that sold THE UTE on Muscle Car Sales, he had got THE UTE from a Wrecker just west of Dubbo who got it off a farm just west of The Wreckers. So She (the Ute) was traveling. From the Farm on too The Wreckers, on too The reseller Guy in Dubbo, to a Bloke in Bathurst, to the gentleman south of Bega who gave Her life with a reco heart and then she came home to be loved by me.

,,,,, really like to know who orders a Belmont Ute in Purr-Pull with 308 stick shift, I believe it was a Jillaroo's Ute (my opinion). I am in the process of building a date correct 308 heart for Her, have the Engine (E 18 3) and one head (E 21 3), missing other head (E 21 3), and the date correct exhust manifolds, oh and the Quadrajet model 7043281 or 7043283 date 0763 to 1083, So she will not have original heart, but her sister's heart, and I believe her soul is in her body, so what's your Belmont's technical history.

I got a HJ holden ute, 11.74 that is wearing Belmont badges with 6 cylinder running gear. Picked it up for spare parts a few (maybe 6?) years ago.

It was factory L31, M41 manderin red with parchment trim.

It's funny how small the Aussie is "wbute" thanks for your feed back. She the Purr-Pull (purple) Ute has two stickers on the back window, one is for race day at Gilgandra and the other is Fielders Bread, I will check if there is any more information on the stickers, she must have been off the road for a while, the pictures on Muscle Car sales show she has a semi striped engine in Her with a two barrel manifold, so 253, not her 308, the bloke that sold the Ute on Muscle Cars was keeping his cards close to his chest when he told me about the Ute, I was there buying another Belmont Ute, the Ute has no rust, worst dent is right rear Bumberette reversing clash with no damage to the Belmont tail light surround, he's all so sold a HJ sandman Ute for $8,000 and a 308 Prem for $4,500, and considering what the price is now 4 or 5 years down the track they sound cheap. Thanks again "wbute" any more info for the Ute would be great.

Is the Ute a three seater compliance plated. thought it strange how a HJ Ute was wearing Belmont badges, but then I thought well it's got a 6 cylinder may be they swapped the guards off a HJ or HX Belmont sedan or wagon when they took the engine, I used to take everything, seats, dash, steering wheel, engine, radiator, gear box and diff then replace it all with 6 cyl running gear and bench seat and kingswood dash, Premiers were good earners, and those One Tonner owners paid good coin. Manderin Red to me is a nicer Red than Salamanca Red probably cause HQ only ever had one Red (Salamanca) and just became too much of a good thing, LOL. Did sell a Jamaica Lime HJ Panel Van, L31, M21, with full roof lining strips (Comfort package) three seater, in need of resto, nice guy, van went to Brisbane about 3 or 4 years ago.

Technical facts on the Belmont Ute I was picking up in Dubbo, when I meet the guy that had sold the Purple Ute, I was there to pick up a black Belmont Ute that was once Chrome Yellow, had a 202 engine and 4 speed M20, Two seat, No XX7 on compliance plate. Built in Brisbane, when I got Her home I sent for a Holden Historical Services Report. While waiting for report, I washed the Ute, She had been painted Blue over the Chrome Yellow and Black over the Blue, I could just read a phone number through the paint and Armidale Tree Services, rang the number and he told me he sold the business 13 years ago but kept the number,,, WAS HE SURPRISED, when I asked about the Ute, told me he got Her off two young blokes in Guyra who had lost their Licences, and it was Yellow when he got it and painted Her Blue. Report came back from Holden Historical Services,
Orded through Queensland zone Office
Built Acacia Ridge, Brisbane on 19/07/74
80280 (V8 Belmont) (XX7 Sandman Optioned)
15893--Chrome Yellow Paint
39B Trim--Chestnut
253--V8
M20--Stick Shift 4 speed
3.08:1--Salisbury Differential
Sold Noble Motors, Gosford, NSW.
Warranty Start Date 10/74.

So if you read somewhere (everywhere) that "all" HQ Sandmans built in Brisbane have XX7 on the Code plate you now know it is false information,,,

Bit like i'm trying to work out why General Motors Holdens own publication (IDENTIFICATION GUIDE) 48-215 to HJ with all Torana's HB-LC-LJ-TA giving total vehicles build numbers for each model, states that 15,279 HQ Statesmans and De Ville's built and 279,780 Total HQ Vehicles Built, between July 1971 and October 1974.

Yeah the HJ ute is 3 seat compliance. Agree they did swap out all the v8 running gear for 6 cylinder gear but the belmont badges are weird, A smash repair maybe?
