I see up for auction this VH SLE . I believe bumper over riders were going to be standard on VH SLE , as early brochures have them listed in the specs ? What does everyone think ... is it the original thing ? https://www.lloydsonline...smode=0&lid=3417703 Thanks Mark. |

... no
something wrong here, this is a Sydney/Pagewood build (Dandenong did 99% prototype builds.. plus why ship it from Pagewood to the bend?) also the paint is wrong.. the 'clear' gloss level on the 'saddle tan' metallic is wrong for a prototype and those are not hand formed panels, as the ad says

Two very good points there, however since it has been to a TAFE, maybe it has had a full respray. The paint looks exceptional for a 40+ year 'barn find'!! Also it's not really a prototype as such, it began life as a fully plated regular production vehicle. Maybe VB SL/Es were is short supply at the time & they just grabbed one from dealer stock somewhere. Dr Terry |

Paint code is Sandalwood metallic but looks no where near it imo. Edited by user Friday, 25 February 2022 7:39:03 PM(UTC)

One bloke on the Ford Forum says they had a 5.0L V8 Opel prototype body number 0000000 I questioned that point of such being all zeros to him, now it was a test car where he worked given to them by Holden.
What i am saying is i have never heard of anything starting from zero regardless if it's a toaster. Nothing starts from zero ? Such start from 001 or such that i have ever know of. all the other Holden prototypes that i know of start at say 0001 and the production model start at 0001001 say i would think.

I might be wrong but I think what is being implied is this VB SL/E was used to mock up the future VH SL/E. I believe as Dr Terry said, it is basically a normal production VB SL/E Commodore. The radiator grille doesn't look like timber to me but who knows maybe made from individual thin timber slats but 'hand carved' seems a bit far fetched. One thing I am sure I can see of the grille is the vertical struts that hold the slats are made from clear acrylic sheet. Someone will or has already been sucked into paying a shipload more for this car than it is really worth. And I don't believe for one minute the engine has never been started or the car has never been driven. Edited by user Sunday, 27 February 2022 4:53:56 PM(UTC)

I would query that too... GMH had 2 (from memory) Opel coupes in the engineering fleet when i was there, 6 cyl versions and were being used as engineering evaluaton vehicles, for things like the rear IRS, body rigidity, pollution controls etc one PBrock saw them one day and thought.... ooh ! I can do something with this. And he did, as we know with one HDT imported also as an 'engineering evaluation vehicle. He got it with some help from Holden but it was a normal production Opel build, body number number NOT zeros that is for sure. And yes, you start numbering from one.... |
