It’s really heavy, iv had Manuel steering cars b4 but this is out there..iv only jst discovered that the brougham with the v8 had to come out from factory with power steering, mine dosnt have power steering anymore for now anyway…does anyone else run a v8 with only Armstrong steering or is it a definite no don’t do it? I havnt yet sussed out the ratio on s.box. Cheers in advance

Power steered HK came with the 16.7:1 steering box from the GTS. If the power steering has been removed it probably still has the box. These are heavier than the normal steering. Remember that GTS in the day, the widest tyres were D70 and ER70 which are pretty close to 205/70. If your Brougham has wider tyres and/or an aftermarket steering wheel it will be very heavy with a 16.7:1 box, especially if the tyres aren’t fully inflated. |

I would fit a standard (20:1) steering box & sell the 16.7 one. They bring good $$$ on ebay etc.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Looks like you are in WA, if you were near me I’d do you a deal on yours for a standard one but not worth the hassle that far away. |

As said above, make sure tyres properly inflated, it will be heavy for parking, but I find 16.7 beautiful for actual driving. That is with the Holden steering wheel, would be impossible with a smaller aftermarket one.

And if you are wanting to reinstall the power steer one day, another reason to keep the box

Nothing means standard steering ie 20:1 although early examples may have used coloured tops. An original Brougham or GTS box should be stamped 16.7 though. Edited by user Wednesday, 13 July 2022 11:37:28 AM(UTC)
