Hello HK1837, thank for your earlier replies on this subject. I have another 307 that i need some information on. I'm casing the history and details behind the following 307 engine please. Cast # GM 3914636, Eng# 30716021. Suppose to be out of a HK Monaro. TIA

It’s out of a Pagewood HK. Could be out of a Monaro as it is numbered late enough, but more likely a Brougham or any other HK. |

Thanks so much. Are you able to tell what month & year the engine (30716021 / GM 3914636) was cast. Further to this are you able to advise what the correct head number and inlet manifold should be to match the block. I don't have the head number handy, but the inlet manifold is 3919801, if it matters the exhaust is 3855164. Thanks in advance for your help.

The cast date will be on the side of the block. The day the engine was assembled is in the engine number after the K.
Heads are 3911032, lots of them around. They aren’t that flash if you want to make power, better off with a pair of 291’s.
Not sure about the intake, they are a 2 barrel lump of junk, best off using a 4BBL intake and Quadrajet. |

If it is the original stamping another later Pagewood HK engine, installed in the later months of HK production. Engine was assembled on 15th April 1968 so was close to a year between first run and installation in a car |

It might have come from a Monaro but that is unlikely as GMH still had a lot of unsold HK Monaro around late in HK. It is more likely to be from any other HK other than GTS327. Most likely would be Brougham, Premier sedan/wagon or GTS.
I didn’t determine an installation date, just that it is later in HK. |

Hello HK1837, I have a 307 (supposedly) it has two numbers stamped, 1# T0113CNF the other number is 10K1(5?)4781. The (5?) is very hard to ready but i think it's a 5 or could be a 6. I was wondering if you be able to decode for me, thanks

CNF is from a 1970 A, F or X body Chevrolet (A Chevelle, F is Camaro, X is Nova). The engine was Tonawanda assembly on 13/1/70. Whatever it was the gearbox was a TH350.
The other number is the partial VIN from what it was originally installed in:
1 means Chevrolet. 0 means 1970. K means Kansas City VAP 154781 is the rest of the PSN (PSN is K154781). |

What are you looking for? 307's out of Holdens are still easy to find, there must be 30,000+ of them out there. Many were destroyed in speedway use especially the 70's where they'd bore them to 4" to make a 327 plus then stroke them to 350ci or 377ci. but there still seems to be a lot of them out there. That generation of SBC lasted really well, they didn't chew camshafts out like 253 and 308 did and there was nothing alloy on them to rot out like 253/308. I got an original 307 recently that was pulled out to replace with a bigger engine, it had never been apart and the car had many miles on it. Would easily have gone back together with new gaskets and run another 40 years. I regularly see them for sale, although lately people get it into their heads they are worth money but they never sell unless a person spots that the engine is the original for their car. Truth be told the accessories are worth heaps more than the block. For example an original manual carby off a HK 5litre car is probably worth $2000, even more if it was off an air conditioned car. Air cleaners are worth good money too. I picked up a Pagewood 307 recently as well, been sitting around for a long time and water has destroyed one bore, possibly two, but I grabbed it for its heads as it had HK 327 Canadian heads on it. The block could be used but it needs a sleeve in one, maybe two bores. |

Pagewood HK, from a Belmont, Kingswood or Premier sedan or wagon or possibly from a ute or van. Pre Monaro and definitely pre-GTS and Brougham. Auto engine. This one has been for sale for a while now online. |

Must be another one. There was a 307117xx on Gumtree for sale in the recent past, in Sydney I think it was. There is also a 30711276K1025 and a 30711393K1005 at the moment also plus a few WA examples (3079xxxx) also. |

It is the same assembly date as the original engine from my Pagewood HK GTS #20 built in the first few days of GTS production at Pagewood. It was V8 auto banjo. It's GMH V8 sequence number was not far from 1000 higher though. |

Hi HK1837, I'm looking for some help identifying early 307 engines. I'm not sure what the number range they should be. Is there a way to identify the build date from the number stamped on the engine, or can you share the range that I should be focusing on. I'm chasing something in early August 68 or younger.
here are a couple of numbers you can check for me. 30743992 k11 21 30740140 k10 25
I also have these numbers below supplied to me but i'm not sure what they are or if indeed have anything to do with the engine build date. I'm following up with him to see if he can provide/find a number starting with 307. Again, I'm not sure if all early 307's had a prefix starting with 307?? Early early ones may have either had nothing or some weird American/Canadian number code I'm not sure of, hence why I ask for some help.
