I have a GTS327 (first type) and my 10 bolt LSD has the following markings: Cast into differential housing: 3894859NF on LH side, GM56 on LH side Stencilled paint on RH axle tube: 7449413 Stamped on LH axle tube: 1 K 8A Stamped on crownwheel: 3790628 11:37 GM 8-68 1 I have read here on Fastlane that these axles were fitted with Eaton-style clutch type LSD centres in early HK but then changed over to cone type LSD centres in later HK and all of HT and HG. With my rear cover removed, I can see that mine is the cone type (diff centre is 2-piece clamped together by a ring of bolts).
What has me puzzled is that the factory service manuals and parts manuals for HK/HT/HG don't seem to mention anything about this cone type LSD. They only show and describe the clutch type. The only place where I could see any reference to the cone type LSD was in the (non-factory) Scientific Publications HK Manual. That book has photographs, exploded views and description.
Q1. Why is this diff type not mentioned in the factory documentation (or did I miss something)? Q2. How did anyone ever order spare parts for these diffs? Where can I find the component part numbers now?

Yours must be closer to the cone type LSD unless the hemisphere has been changed at some stage. Why the docs are vague I don't know. All the bits for the centre are identical to US stuff. Just use Google and research US sites about how to identify, the rear cover is the telltale. Look here: https://www.chevyhardcor...ivetrain/10-bolt-chevy/
Once you’ve read that go look on US EBay for GM 10 bolt 8.2” posi centres. They aren’t that dear new. They will all be the Eaton clutch type though, I haven’t seen parts for the Borg Warner cone type. Edited by user Thursday, 30 March 2023 7:50:03 AM(UTC)

I have a copy of the option G88 engineering parts list and it dosent list any internal parts for the diff. If they're not on this list they wont appear in a Holden parts manual. Appart from gaskets and bolts these are the only main items listed. Thanks for the informative replies gentlemen. I believe my hemisphere has not been replaced. Everything looks original. When I removed the pinion flange (for seal replacement), I could see that the front pinion bearing was still a NEW DEPARTURE brand. This makes me think my diff has never been apart. It is weird how the documentation doesn't mention the cone-type LSD centre. How on earth did dealers repair these things back in the day with no part numbers to go by?
Looks like the US Chevrolet 10 bolt 8.2" diffs are all Eaton clutch types. I noticed that the BOP diffs (Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac) had a cone-type mechanism but apparently the parts are not interchangeable between the Chev 8.2" and BOP 8.2". Looks like I will need to just replace the whole centre assembly with one of those Eaton clutch types from the US suppliers as the original parts seem to be unobtainable nowadays.
Wayne, I noticed that the bare axle shown in your list is 7433581. However, the HK Parts Manual (yellow version) lists the salisbury 10 bolt axle as 7437374. Maybe this axle was changed part way through HK production for some reason?

QUANTITY 2 - 7433582 SHAFT ASM-REAR AXLE NOTE: Part of rear axle assembly. QUANTITY 2 - 7433581 SHAFT REAR AXLE, OTHERWISE SAME AS 7431620 Dosent show it as being superseded or superseeding any other number and dosent have the number 7437374 anywhere.
