Anyone have any idea why there was a chrome and a Matt silver finish on these? Was there a specific date they changed or offered them?
The bezel I mean is the surround die cast metal on the rectangular commercial lights.

Chrome was Kingswood I think.

Or it may have just been cab-chassis after about April 1981. Initially only Kingswood got square headlights, the rest were round. About August 1980 utes and vans came with square headlights and cab-chassis stayed round until early in 1981.

I’m trying to remember if my Dad’s van were painted or chrome. Old photos aren’t clear enough. I have a feeling they were silver, it was a 1981 from memory.

There doesn’t seem to be a great answer. A 82 parts book only lists one style, my 84 book lists Matt and chrome. People are saying they were both around from the beginning and it seems random fitting (which seems odd to me).

Which bezels does the 1982 parts book list for the rectangular lamps? Chrome or Matt?

Stands to reason the matt finish bezels were not introduced until after the 1982 parts book was published. Perhaps the matt finish bezels were introduced as a minor facelift for 1983?

My guess is Kingswood ute were chrome and when ute, van and later cab-chassis changed to square headlights they got the matt surrounds. Or ute and van were still chrome when the square lights first introduced and went to matt when the cab-chassis got square headlights in 1981. Whether Kingswood continued with chrome or changed to matt is probably the question. There was also a cab-chassis XY7 special appearance features package that had a different headlight bezel (don't know if that was round or square lights).

The special vehicle package are listed as a third type in my 84 parts book. What was that package?

In HQ-HZ it was:

Chrome hubcaps
Chrome headlight rim
Chrome Grille
Chrome front bar and bolts.

Not exactly sure how that translated into WB. Same with BO6.
