I saw RPO code ML4 for export VP/VR Calais. Is this a GM transmission or Jatсo from VL? And if it's Jatco, then they're probably not interchangeable with VL 3.0.

These have an Opel 2.6L inline 6, and as far as I know a 4L30E 4spd auto. This box is most likely an electronic and upgraded 3L30 (aka TH180 or Trimatic).
I hadn’t heard of a VP based Opel Calais before.

That is correct. The ML4 in VP/VR is a GM 4L30-E 4-sp auto (AKA Opel AR25). In other words a 4-sp (electronic) Tri-Matic.

It is not related to the Jatco ML4 box in the VL.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

It was a Thai Holden VP Calais with Caprice's front end.

I saw one of those in Singapore when I was over there in 1976. It didn't look too bad.

Agree. It was reminiscent of the Cadillacs of the early 90s.

Similar cars were exported by Holden to Brazil as a Chevrolet Omega. Well into VE too.
