Hello! I'm hoping for some guidance in finding the real life parts for the numbers in the HX parts catalogue. For example, number 13 for the rear shock absorber is https://www.kingswoodcou...ush-bolt-kit-hq/SAK1009AAnd 9422299 is a 7/16 hex locking nut, 9422301 is a 1/2 inch hex locking nut. Where are SP2538 and 122345 recorded as their real-life equivalents? Any help is very much appreciated.

HQ parts catalogue. It is the best reference for nut, bolt, washer and set screw measurements. Problem is in the 1971 catalogue they just say BOLT - Hexagon head 8.900. And Washer - Lock 8.931. And NUT - hexagon 8.915. ALL of the nuts, bolts and washers are in those sections and you need a part number to identify it. Neither of those numbers exist in it though. I'd probably need to look in the late HQ or HJ catalogue and get the part numbers for those and then go back to the 1971 catalogue and find the numbers in the sections mentioned sections. Problem is going to be that the HQ used a lock washer and HX from memory uses a self locking nut. Edit - HJ no good as it shows the same as HX. Will try late HQ later. 2nd Edit - late HQ catalogue same as HX too. Edited by user Sunday, 27 August 2023 6:52:51 PM(UTC)

Thank you HK1837. After reading your reply I set out to determine what the SP in SP2538 was. Standard Part. As in Standard Parts Catalogue. So I've found myself a 1977 version that I'm hoping will lead me to the details. Chasing up the instructions is proving just as fun as chasing the parts to build the van. Now that I have the (mostly) new chassis in my shed it's easy to get excited about finding things.

What happened mid HQ was they removed sections 8.900 and onwards, which was all the fasteners. Whether they were SP numbers or straight part numbers in the 6-8 digit forms. And then put the actual numbers for those fasteners in the diagrams. Which is what you see in the image you posted up. In the HQ book it’d have a number next to it like that shock bottom bolt, and it’d say BOLT - Hexagon head -8.900.
The problem is you didn’t know which bolt in 8.900 it is as all of the car’s bolts are in there.
Normally you’d go to a later catalogue, find SP2538 then look in 8.900 for that number and voila. Unfortunately though in this case neither of what you want is in the HQ book as both changed after HQ.
Hopefully the Standard Parts book helps.
Only other thing is I might be able to look up the Parts History books and see if a later number supersedes them, and possibly then appears in VY-VZ cab-chassis or Crewman. But you’d have to get to a remaining Holden Spares outlet to search it. |

I found these if it helps: https://www.heartbeatcit...k-Nut-Set-GM%23-9422299/https://www.heartbeatcit...k-Nut-Set-GM%23-9422301/I had a look in the HQ Parts book and the only 1/2" bolts are all 13tpi so SP2538 will be that thread, get me an approx length and I'll tell you the HQ number, for example 9428406 is 6.75" long and phosphate coated. I have a feeling that the HJ-WB one will be a little longer though due to the self locking nut. 122345 is a bit harder as it is 7/16". There are two thread pitches, 14 and 20 tpi. But this comes to the rescue: https://www.zip-corvette...ntrol-arm-stud-nuts.htmlShows them as 20tpi. There is only a few in the HQ parts book. Get me an approx length and I'll tell you how long the HQ one was. Or just go and buy a 7/16" 20tpi zinc bolt in the length you need, make sure it is the same grade though. |

As it turns out, SP2538 is available from Kingswood Country. https://www.kingswoodcou...-bolts-x2-hq-hj-h/SP1010
