Hi All.
I'm attempting to install a new Powerbond harmonic balancer on a rebuilt 253.
The new balancer will not even get started on the end of the crank. My understanding is that the balancer should push on fairly easily until the keyway is engaged. It should then tighten up as the bolt/washer pulls it all the way in. Is this correct ?
Perhaps this aftermarket balancer is garbage. Anyone seen this issue before ?

ummm... no, not in my experience

the snout of a Holden V8 crank is the same diameter until the start of it...
so no, they do not push on. never in my experience having built lots of them.

the slot on the balancer should just reach the woodruff in the crank (if installed correctly)
and the bolt/washer combo should just pull it on.

hint... linish the crank with some 1200wet/dry paper and then a bit of sewing machine or 0W engine oil
wiped onto the crank helps

pic is of the lastest engine I built .. you can see the front of the crank with the woodruff

There's no way the balancer would push on at all, let alone just up to the start of the woodruf key.
I did linish the first 15mm of the crank and put some grease on.
I put the balancer in a pot of boiling water and then it would just tap on a bit.
I lined the woodruf key up by poking a cable tie through the keyway from the front of the balancer.
Then tapped it all the way home with a deadblow hammer and piece of wood.
It worked so I'm happy...hopefully no issues.
Now I've gotta paint the balancer againAnxious
