What is inside the canister?
All of the exploded parts views I have show nothing inside.

proper technical name is .. charcoal canister so the answere is 'activated charcoal'
why?
the charcoal-filled canister's job is to absorb fuel vapor from the fuel system that would otherwise vent out to the atmosphere,
causing pollution. Vapors trapped by the charcoal are released back into the engine through a purge style valve and then burned in the engine

Thank you both for the replies. :-)
I remember it being called a charcoal canister so was expecting to see an indication of such on the diagrams.
Try as I might with Google I can't find what the inside looks like. Does the charcoal ever lose effectiveness and need to be replaced?
