I've recently picked up some NOS Holden exhaust pipes and included were the 2 pipes below -





7448881 - HK 307 Eng RH
2808619 - HK 327 Eng LH (early number is 7449065)


What difference would there be between 7449065 (early 327 LH pipe) and 2808619 (later 327 LH pipe)?
Perhaps a difference in the LH manifold, or resonator size?


Also, in theory would the 307 RH pipe fit a 327, where a resonator could be added to make it "correct" for 327?

I can't remember exactly what and if anything changed with the 327 exhaust - it may just be a part number thing where numbers change and bits aren't exactly what was fitted originally. There is a fair bit of that stuff happening by the time the blue HK book was published in 1972, it's full of furphies. It may be a real change though, I just can't think of what might be different - maybe HT style resonators.

The 307 exhaust is for a single system so will be nothing like a dual system for a 307/327. Don't waste it, hang onto it and buy the right dual exhaust bits from someone like Settlement Road Exhausts.

I wouldn't use that old dual system resonator either, it's a museum piece. It's probably all shagged inside.

The 307 Pipe is for a single system?


Where do the 2 engine pipes join together? I would have assumed they joined far closer to the engine, near the gearbox bellhousing etc.


I couldn't find any undercar pictures of 307 single exhaust systems, but would love to see how they piece together.

Yes. It was possible to option N10 (dual exhaust) on all HK V8 except Brougham, but as so few cars were actually Retail Order they are virtually non-existent. N10 on a 307 was simply the 327’s exhaust. There would have been plenty of new systems sold through Nasco and later GMP&A to fit to HK V8.
I’ll see if I took photos of my HK GTS before I took its exhaust off, it still had an original system on it. It is two pipes into one and just the 186S system back.

Just to throw another question out there, a close friend has an HK Premier Wagon, 307, Powerglide etc.

The "front pipe" that came off his Wagon (currently under resto) was a 2 into 1 Y pipe which joined very close to the engine itself.


Would the 307 pipe I have here, therefore be the "factory correct" RH pipe for his Wagon?

Still looking for the photos.

If that pipe is labelled correctly then yes it will fit his car. That pipe on all V8 HK (and I think 5litre/307 HT) is the same other than of course GTS327 and those few V8 cars optioned with N10.

7449065 was the LH 'pipe and resonator assembly' it was superseded by 2808619.

I think the resonators were altered in some way because their part number was superseded from 7449062 to 2808625.
The LH RH intermediate pipes were also superseded at the same time.

I don't know what else changed, did type 1 327's have an exhaust heat riser valve?
