All

Does anyone have any ideas on exactly when the door handle moved on HK doors? And when the inner pressing changed from HR to HK?

Reason I ask is a mate just picked up a very original Elizabeth/Mosman Park HK sedan. February 1968 completion. It has the early HK door handle positions on both front doors. It has the early HK guards. But it only has the early HR inner frame on the LHS front. RHS front has the later curved inner. We were scratching wondering why/how. He has a pair of early HK Prem front doors as the pair on the Kingswood have some rust. Both of those are the same, ie early handles and early LHS frame, later RHS frame.

On two cars and then the replacement painted using the GMH procedure of red lead over steel, black etch then paint? Replacement panels came from GMH black, these doors don't have that. The key is the early door handle position on the drivers doors with the later curved HK inner frame. To date conventional wisdom has been that the door handle moved around HK commercial introduction but the early inner frames continued for a while. These driver's doors have the door handle in the early position with teh later frames.

This car actual has all three other doors with the early inners, and also has the early HK guards with the wider wheel arch reverse curve and HR inner skirts. Only the driver's door is a wierdo. My initial thought was replacement too until we saw the patina layers and the early door handle position. Then found the same thing on the Premier doors mentioned.

I think the change date is after Monaro/Brougham intro. They list Brougham door trims as replacement parts with holes in either position.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I’ll check out the parts catalogue Terry, I didn’t think of that.
Dave Smith told me that he has only ever seen 3 front door variations (lux level aside):

Early door handle position and HR inner frame.
Moved door handle and HR inner frame.
Moved door handle and HK inner frame.

This car’s front right door, plus the spare Premier pair’s front right have another variant:

Early door handle position with with HK inner frame.

To me it looks like either a new style of pressing for the inner frame was trialed on the driver’s door in late January 1968, or that door changed to the new style inner frame first. I can’t see any other way these two RH doors exist otherwise?

Next mission is finding out how many HK coupes got the doors with the early inner frames. Will have to check my Woodsman Green Acacia Ridge car when I see it next as it is last week of June 1968.
