Hi guys, it’s exhaust time, I’m thinking 2 1/4 with lukey mufflers, stainless looking for thoughts on what type and size of muffler etc don’t want drone motor has mild roller cam any video with sound would help, Thanks in advance,

You'll only need twin 2" on a 308, or at absolute worst twin 2.25" back to the mufflers then 2" back from there. You'll want a balance pipe or X-pipe if its a HQ-HJ or similar manifold and/or heads without an exhaust crossover between the heads. If you don't have that it sounds like thongs slapping together. If the engine has an EGR/choke crossover that alleviates the thong slap a lot. I'd be tempted to run a single 2.5" from a pair of 2" engine pipes. Talk to an exhaust specialist that remembers early Holden V8's first though.

Your correct ! even with a stock camshaft 2 1/4 free flowing as you can make it is the go for perfomance ! put a balance pipe on it as well !
Do not go any 2 1/2 they are total shit, drop power like you would not believe and drone like a bastard, especially with a Van.

The Lukey were known to be a deep noise more down low in the rev range. dog leg type muffler.
Oh and extractors with collecters i found best regardless.

I had tossers everywhere in exhaust shops claim i would pick up huge amounts of power with single 2 1/2 they were totaly full of shit ! I lost heaps of power with that crap ! but they were boasting like hell i would pick up huge amounts of power. They all claimed that my twin 2/14 was shit.
Just as the Dyno carby specialist claimed my jetting was to rich and demanded that i could not aford to drive it like that, i said listen Boy I drive 50,000KM a year fool and i could get 22MPG on the HWY sitting on 120km/h. floating up to 140 down some hills. and after that tosser it got 16.5MPG Cause the vacuum advance did not work after he had it and i was the one who found that it was not working. but I had driven to Melbourn and back to G Coast before i found out using my own timing light. then i had to jet it up as it was to lean and running to lean does not give better fuel economy in fact.

So make sure you have Vacuum advance working, it's their for fuel economy ! and jetted the right way to make power. Dyno ect places will not do it the right way, they will make it as lean as they can only and you loose a lot of power because of just that issue.

Same load of BS with the EFI 5.0L V8. Twin exhause rule, look at the last 5.0L VT they had dual exhaust ! the only reason why they had a single exhaust on the VB to VS was only made for one Cat and single exhaust.

The last of the VS with sequencial 5.0L of the VT engine is claimed to be 179KW that is total BS ! Because i owend such a Ute from new and drove a VT 179 and the VT is heavyer than my ute, but a VT would flog my ute easy.

I still say twin 2" is big enough, it's just a 308. GT-HO had 2.25". You might pick up a handful of hp at maximum rpm, but in reality in the time you own it you'd be luck to hit peak rpm, and the risk with too big in the exhaust is loss of torque.

Twin 2” with one lukey 2 in 2 out muffler. You don’t need a balance pipe then. Sounds good, deeper rumble, no drone.

That's not what i have found with the 308 at all. it's power all the way from low down to top.
The old Ford and Chevs V8 are diffrent tho. and dirt bikes i have had you have to have some back pressure of you loose and do not go to big a pipe for sure.

Around here i have a lot of morons getting about with no exhaust and EFI cars or bikes. they put a meggaphone on the end of such and they just hold it flat to the bords in nutral on the rev limiter and hold it there for ages. or in 1st gear and then if backfires like hell ! so loud you can hear it miles away !

Some prick on a new road bike 4 into one open meg exhaust, he just pulled out the guts of it and rides around flat out !
I was walking down the foot path and this prick was sitting talking on his phone, as i got up near him he took off flat ! and it was so loud that it hurt my ears ! i though that's that tosser ! if i knew it was him i would of kicked him in the head ! Pricks like that need their toys distroyed because it's outright intentional to be a total tosser. He would loose a lot of power with it open like that and they run crap ! i can hear it's not in tune for the open pipe not to mention even if it was he would loose perfomance.

I can not see that the Cops give a rats at all about such people! But with the new QLD Government that may change.

When i was a kid you had to be carful of the Cops or they would just turn up and kick your arse ! and that was being polite of them. any smartarse lip and you get punched out ! bring back the Biff !

But a mate had suped up HX Van 308 really worked well with twin 2 1/2 dual but quiet, it had a T400 Auto and 2500 stall, it would lift the left wheel of the ground on take off ! with a 3.0 ratio 9 inch diff and just ate T400's and he never stoked it up and dropped it into low, did not need that at all. only thing it needed was better fuel than 97 RON fuel that we had back in the days.

So i do understand what you are saying, but it's not true with the carby 308.

I ment VB to VS is a single exhause body problem, that's why the single exhaust fandom ! Yes only 1 Cat with them, but the VT has 2 cats and dual exhaust, proof that Holden went to that is better than a single pipe. or they would surely of used a single exhaust if such was better.

Look i liked my HG Premier 253 single note and it performed spot on.
I heard some VB-C-H single exhause getting about here and they sounded like total crap ! mine was just stock manifold and pipes going into one 2 1/4 and a streight through Hills muffler. but the Commodors i have heard not all but some were like a blobb blobb bloob noise like the firing was wrong gerarding the point where the 2 pipes meet is wrong tune ! same with many a 351c just the same total crap noise !

Their was a VX Commodore around here with maybe 600hp and a single exhaust it flew but the sound was like perfict exhause timeing, sounded shit like a drain pipe, not loud tho but no V8 note to it ! 1 even note to it to 7000rpm ! 3in pipe.
I live say 5 houses from the corner and 7 to the next corner and i could see him turn and coming up the street, you would miss what it was, if you a blinked your eyes ! make a mistake with that much power and your dead, i was waiting to hear a huge Bang ! but the C hung on to it !
