I gotta ask what does a tech-1 do? never seen one, what does a tech-1 do that a paper clip and counting the number of times the light flashes can't. Why do you need one? |

This is the difference between a proper scanner & a simple code reader. Scanners are used to program keys, recalibrate gauges, update software, operate ABS valves etc. etc. whereas code readers don't usually do much more than read (& maybe erase) fault codes. The Tech-1 was the predecessor to the Tech-2. From memory Tech-1 was used for VL to VS ((OBD1) & Tech-2 was used for VT onwards (OBD2). Tech-1s are very thin on the ground these days & so are the various cartridges & adaptors required for the different systems used back in those days. Dr Terry |

Yes correct, Tech -1 is a very good diagnostic tool . I can get one out of USA but you need the Holden/Opel programs to make it work on our cars . |

Can I ask what are you working on? Very few VN-VP have abs they dont have transponder chips in the key, I made one of these once I've never used it even when I drove a vp. https://www.techedge.com...icle/aldl160/vn_aldl.htm I once had a vq statesman I don't remember using it when I did the brakes on it. What gauges on a Vn-Vp commodore can be calibrated? Edited by user Tuesday, 5 August 2025 6:38:37 AM(UTC)

What gauges on a Vn-Vp commodore can be calibrated? Yes, you are correct with respect to VN-VP ABS & gauges etc. but with Tech-1 on the older cars they are very good with active data. In other words direct reading of things like coolant temp, throttle %, idle motor steps, idle RPM & various other bits & bobs make set-up easier. Dr Terry |
