Someone told me recently that these exist. I don't believe it until I see evidence of it. Its not on any parts catalogues nor is there a package code for it. Anyone seen one?

I don't think GMH made any Chev bolt pattern 4.2 V8s, did they ?

Could be a prototype, I did see a UC Torana with a 202/TH350 fitted. It was GMH mule on an around Australia test. To make it fit the bell-housing was cut & shut with a Trimatic one.

Yes for Eaton box compatibility.

I asked why? If a WB cab-chassis with a 4.2 they used a Trimatic, and that’s fair heavier work. But supposedly this VC with L36 and M38 on the body tag exists. There is nothing official in the parts catalogue and no package code for it though. My first thought was a stamping error but supposedly the car had paperwork. I also wondered if it might have been a HDT thing like for a Group3, but that is VH.

I'm pretty sure that VH has a mis-stamped ID plate. There are plenty out there.

BTW I cannot understand this reverence for the TH350. After they overcame the clutch material issues of the 70s the Trimatic proved to be a very tough gearbox, definitely superior to the TH350. There are a lot of WB/VC/VH/VK/VL V8s out there (HDTs included) still running Trimatics with no dramas.

The Trimatic's planetary gearset is very long-lived. A lot of guys with RB30-ET (turbo 6 VL) drag cars producing big HP use Trimatics as their preferred 3-speed auto.

I would also be curious to known which plant is on the build plate...

This was during my era when I was the VAP Costing Supervisor in charge
of the GMH finance group who checked off the VAP BOMs and production costings
generated each day from all the Broadcast sheets from that BOM list
and I don't think it possible.

Anything outside of the manufacturing options pack for Commodore (there is
not one for VC or VH with the T350 in my records I have) would 'bounce'
.. be on the error list if you like.

It would need to be referred to the Bill of Materials Engineering Manager
for a list of parts needed. It is not just the box, from bellhousing cover
to the shifter to tailshaft etc, these would all differ to the permitted Bill of
Material list of parts for a VAP build.

My VH L31/M21 G80 large Salisbury basic 'L' station wagon (8VK35) I got
permission to be built popped up on one daily error list for example ..
or the (non-approved) VC SL/E station wagon build was another example

Exp Engineering could of course hand build one .. as part of product testing or
product improvements (and I got a daily list of this sort of thing... I signed off on
the inventory issues too) but these never, as far as I know, got build plates or
were registered. They did go to the testing ground at Lang Lang on trade plates...

I would too. This is a referred viewing of it.

GMH did Engineer and price a lot of stuff you could do, but it had to get approved for it to happen as you state.
