Just wondering if there is any advantages using a
billet steel gear drive over the original chain drive.

My engine builder and I have just had this discussion. His take is that they are a huge waste of time effort energy and expense. It is unusual to have them bolt straight in, they are a bugger to set up and dont really do that much.

there was a LH 308 Torana not far from here that has the gear drive. he just put them in. really noisey and they rattle around really bad. now he has to get a timing case as the teeth have worn thru the cover and sprayed oil everywhere. then i have seen t

Had one in my Torrie, as Luke said, they sound cool, no good for high rev applications though, cant get enough lubrication to it. I ended up breaking the circlips on the idler gears from revving it too hard.

Ive got one on one of my engines. It took a lot of work to get the clearance on the gears set up. (I run them at .002") but its so quiet the you wouldnt even notice it. If you run the gears loose then they will be noisy.
I onl got it to be able to change
