I have a dual fuel HZ Premier that is hard to start when cold on gas. I have been advised it's because the standard points dizzy can't make a strong enough spark to ignite the gas when cold, so I always start on petrol. Anyway I've been looking at HEI systems from WB/VC/VH models but they seem to go for pretty big money or I miss out! I see the Mallory twin point systems available with matching coils quite often, are these a good compromise as they are much cheaper? Does anyone here run one, if so how hard are they to fit and how do they perform?

Thanks

Peter

Gas is always hard to start cold as the gas needs heat to de-liquify.
It's usual to start on petrol and after 5 mins go gas.

That's true John, however my previous car a WB Stato with HEI ignition started quite well on gas even when cold and it was the same gas setup I have on my HZ wagon, a sprintgas system. I assumed the points ignition was the difference.

I have a HZ 308 TH400 1-tonner on LPG. I fitted a blue motor HEI dizzy and coil. The Mallory units might be cheap but wait till you have to buy a rotor button and cap! My tonner runs a newgen mixer (the aircleaner style). To start it cold I tu

I was just wondering what type of converter you are using. I have had gas powered cars since 1988 and all of them have had stock points ignition. Only the first one was a little hard to start cold and it became a lot worse when I moved to t

Thanks Greg, that's good advice, I had a new converter on my previous 308 (in a WB Stato) and it started fine on gas cold, I assumed it was the HEI ignition that was the difference, maybe it was the new converter all along!!
