Does anyone have any info on a good way to fit an air conditioning compressor to a 186?


Is the soultion to use a double pulley on the fan? (there doesn't seem to be room to fit one on the existing fanbelt without fouling).


Maybe someone can advise the best configuration?

Take a look at a VB-VH 6 cylinder commodore - the A/C mounts low on the LH side of the motor (but may be too close to the rail on a torrie) or the alternative is a VK 6 cylinder, where it is mounted high up on the RH side of the motor, but it needs the 4

That's great news that I can bolt-on a pully to the harmonic balancer.


Could you elaborate on the 4 mounting bosses at #1 plug? I have a blue head but I guess it's not a late model as there are no mounting bosses in that area.

The 4 bosses are around the plug hole in a square pattern - they are drilled & tapped.


If it's in the landrover, then do you have space beside the motor on the lower front LH corner?


If you do, it would be a better position for it.

When I said that I'd swap bits, I meant the combined alternator/aircon compressor bracket and the adjusting bracket...I don't have a spare pulley at the moment...

Dave, that photo is great, now I see how it should be.


Mick, I have plenty of space but most of it is on the RHS. I reckon it might fit under the alternator though, as you say this would be best.
