Theres many things potentially wrong with this picture but thought I'd check some of the finer details.

For some reason the snorkel has been reattached, using an early pre-pollution snorkel, not a big deal to make one good base. And shouldn't the snorkel on early versions face the other way at an angle, the same as the 253 version before all swung across the exhaust manifold?

The base also has the switch holes for the pre-heat valve which 'should' be incorrect for a plain snorkelled base? It also has the gasket and appears to have been used as shown by the ring depression on it.

Also the lid says 253, but again could be a combination of air cleaners/lids to get a good one. Can't really make out the position of the breather filter hole, early at front, later at rear, should it have one if genuine?

I asked the seller a few q's and he claims it is definitely the real deal so thought I'd throw it up here.

The snorkel does point the right way for L34 , but it has a HT HG 253 308 Only snorkel on it which is incorrect.
And also yes the thermo vac holes are definitely wrong for L34. There is also one other variance but thats a trade secret .
(Sorry Frank i know you will be upset with me again !)

Whats the difference in the snorkel to early HQ? It appears to have the shoulder, the length is hard to determine if they changed slightly but the angle makes it look stumpy?

Heres a pic I found that shows the snorkle pointing the other way, but having said that, much of the car doesnt seem original and the owner got very lazy in regards to the aircleaner decal!

Its a little hobby of mine, restored a few different V8 models for use in the "poolroom and along the way found plenty of guys who are after bolt-on and go restored air cleaners. So I like to makes sure I put the correct decals and details on the right ones, have collected a fair few in recent times!

Sounds like a line from the castle ! In the poolroom .
There is a guy on ebay who restores them but he sandblasts them by the looks , so i would not go near them .
Dare anyone to sandblast one and then touch the metal it goes rock hard and becomes unworkable after blasting hence why i dont ever sandblast metal . The steel on these air cleaners is pretty thin .

Generally if they need panel work then they are not worth the trouble unless an early/hard to get type. And the snorkels are that thin you can tap them in and out of shape without trying. I sandblast and powdercoat some, others cant be blasted like original tin coated Hemi.
I think I know the guy on ebay you refer to, often has an HQ aircleaner for nearly $400, and later versions with bare metal photos during sandblasting and pre-heat valve still in place, hiding the rust under it no doubt!

Anyway, what did you say the differences in snorkel were for HG/HT and early HQ models? I have 2, want to decal correctly.

A few samples of what I play with!
