Is a HK-T-G monaro a coupe or a 2 door hardtop and also the HQ-J-X.

I know holden call them a coupe.

But i think a valiant charger and VF-G were a pillar less coupe because they have a shorter wheelbase then there sedan. and the holden do not?

And what is that 2 door CK chrysler it has a long wheelbase.?

I think the torana LC-J is a 2 door pillared coupe.?

Am i right or wrong.

Holden called the LC and LJ 2 door a sedan, the roofline for the 4 and 2 door were the same.

Its all very confusing because Aussies use different names to the Yanks & the Poms.
In its strictest grammatical definition, coupe means a 2-door car with a fixed roof, but in Australia it usually means a sporty 2-door which has a different roofline to the sedan.
2-door versions of the HK-HX were always a coupe & they were pillarless as well, unlike the V2 & VZ Monaros. Geminis however, did had a 2-door coupe but it was pillared.

I dont recall GM-H ever use the term hardtop for any Holden, although Ford & Chrysler did, they probably had more U.S. influence.

The LC/LJ series is a good example where they just referred them to as 2-door or 4-door sedans, Holden never referred to a 2-door LC/LJ as a coupe. When you get to the LH/LX/UC they had a 4-door sedan & a 3-door hatchback coupe.

The Chrysler by Chrysler 2-door hardtop coupe was built on the same wheelbase as the Regal 2-door, it just had the Chrysler front bar & grille which made it look longer. This 2-door was built on a wheelbase which was longer than the Charger but shorter than the LWB Chrysler 4-door. The Charger BTW, was never a pillarless coupe, it was a pillared coupe, some even had the side window fixed, not hinged to open. AFAIK the VF/VG 2-doors were pillarless, they were actually imported Dodge Dart bodies & I believe they were built on a longer wheelbase than the equivalent 4-door.

Almost correct the VF/VG Hardtop as they were called was on a longer wheelbase than the equivalent sedan. 112" as opposed to 108" from memory.

The VH hardtop used the CH Chrysler body shell (with a bigger back window) complete with the 4" longer wheelbase than the Valiant sedans and still had the little ridges on the top of the rear quarters as the CXC sedan had. From memory the Sedans were 112" and the CXC and hardtops were 116" wheelbase.

Chargers were all pillarless but as you say they either had fixed or flipper rear side windows. You can unscrew the flipper windows for that panoramic look and if you open the front doors an pull the fixed widows hard enough towards the front of the car they will slide out.

One of the features that I did not like about my old Charger was that the seatbelts were mounted to the roof (due to no B pillar) and as I am not overly tall at 54" they used to sit around my neck not on my shoulder.

Yep, VF/VGs are pillarless. (got one in the shed. Its a bloody huge bastard).
The term Hardtop seems to be at the manufacturers discretion. Its probably used by some makers to differentiate when they have a model available in both Hardtop (coupe) and Softtop (convertible).

I had a bit of a look at a book at the library on the subject of definitions of body styles. that got me thinking.
I have seen a Opel type VB commodore with 2 doors it looked just like a 4 door sedan and it looked like rubbish. i recon it would be called a 2 door sedan.
And then they had the opel monza 3 door hatch. that could of been a VB commodore.it looks good.

Now when looking at all the yank cars, there is so many mustang camaro ect. that you have to be very specific or you will look like a fool.

Could our charger be a fastback coupe.
Chrysler a 2 door pillarless hardtop.
Holden 2 doors HK to HX hardtop and the commodore monaro a pillared coupe.
Then there is like my dads 1972 LTD galaxie called a slim pillared 4 door sedan because the windows do not have a door window surrounds.
