I know holden call them a coupe.
But i think a valiant charger and VF-G were a pillar less coupe because they have a shorter wheelbase then there sedan. and the holden do not?
And what is that 2 door CK chrysler it has a long wheelbase.?
I think the torana LC-J is a 2 door pillared coupe.?
Am i right or wrong.
Its all very confusing because Aussies use different names to the Yanks & the Poms.
In its strictest grammatical definition, coupe means a 2-door car with a fixed roof, but in Australia it usually means a sporty 2-door which has a different roofline to the sedan.
2-door versions of the HK-HX were always a coupe & they were pillarless as well, unlike the V2 & VZ Monaros. Geminis however, did had a 2-door coupe but it was pillared.
I dont recall GM-H ever use the term hardtop for any Holden, although Ford & Chrysler did, they probably had more U.S. influence.
The LC/LJ series is a good example where they just referred them to as 2-door or 4-door sedans, Holden never referred to a 2-door LC/LJ as a coupe. When you get to the LH/LX/UC they had a 4-door sedan & a 3-door hatchback coupe.
The Chrysler by Chrysler 2-door hardtop coupe was built on the same wheelbase as the Regal 2-door, it just had the Chrysler front bar & grille which made it look longer. This 2-door was built on a wheelbase which was longer than the Charger but shorter than the LWB Chrysler 4-door. The Charger BTW, was never a pillarless coupe, it was a pillared coupe, some even had the side window fixed, not hinged to open. AFAIK the VF/VG 2-doors were pillarless, they were actually imported Dodge Dart bodies & I believe they were built on a longer wheelbase than the equivalent 4-door.
